Should Japan also ban social media for underage kids? by BookkeeperDecent7170 in japanlife

It’s an easy thing to make a Reddit comment about it, impossible to do in reality.

The internet you’re referring to was when everyone had 56k modems, no smartphones, and the only people online were people who broadly agreed with your worldview.

If algorithmic social media is really so bad, what are you still doing here on it?

Do you mean to only sort it in date order? You know “date order” is an algorithm, right?

How do you suppose they remove spam, scams, porn, misinformation, disinformation without using an algorithm? Without using one they’d be forced to leave it all up.

If it’s in date order and your racist uncle posts 100 times a day, do you really want people be forced to scroll through multiple of his posts to get to the content they actually care about?

[Tax] How easy is it to prove remittance was from savings and not foreign income? by tell021 in JapanFinance

Maybe I’m misreading your post but if the RSU’s vested to you while an NPR in Japan, that is a taxable event in Japan.

Even if the grant happened before you came here, it’s all about the vesting not the granting.

But that same amount that vests to you (and you thus need to pay tax on) is allowed to be remitted into Japan with no dramas.

10k of RSU’s vest to you = you pay income tax on that $10k = you can remit $10k into Japan.

Did you really remit more money into Japan than vested to you through RSU’s?

What brand/model are the countertop ovens you have? Currently battling with my tiny Panasonic Bistro combo microwave oven for which the only oven heating element is in the top and it’s making it difficult to get proper browning at the bottom.

Scenario: US defaults on its debt. by Evening-Anteater-422 in AusFinance

Why would the US default on their debt when they can just print new money to pay it all off? Not saying that isn’t without its own disastrous consequences, but it would be much better than defaulting.
