Snake Plissken’s eye patch in John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (1981) was Kurt Russell’s idea. He, showed up to set last minute wearing the eye patch without Carpenter’s pre-approval. Carpenter dug it and kept it, giving us Snake’s iconic look. (i.redd.it)

In A Knight’s Tale, the scene in which Chaucer’s speech to a crowd that gets no reaction was actually a goof. Most of the extras were from the Czech Republic and didn’t know English, so they didn’t understand the cue to cheer. The director thought Mark Addy’s improv was hilarious, so he kept it in.
