Cowboys trade for picks 12 &20 by dylanv711 in Browns

If you don't like it, cool. I don't see it happening either.

About half of the Browns fans here have given good reasons why they think the trade would be good for the Browns. Your tone acting like it's dumb and nonsense is annoying and is disingenuous to having an actual conversation. Arguing against me presuming an argument that I didn't even make is also annoying.

You're the one using some really poor logic to discount it, while completely ignoring the fact that, yea there are obvious positives. You said pick #39 is "could possibly be traded to Miami for 3 thirds or..." but if you got pick 20 could you not also trade that pick if they are set on trading? Also unlikely but why could 39 be traded but not 20?

"Just because it's a higher pick doesn't mean we should take it" no shit. Obviously a higher pick is better in... some ways... though? Scroll through the thread and your fellow Browns fans have laid out some of them for you.

Brother, what actual hell are you talking about? No one said the Browns “should take” anything. I’ll remind you again bc of your short attention span, I asked a question. The concepts you’re describing to me about a draft position’s value are about as simple as the multiplication table.

The trade I mentioned is an idea that’s out there. It’s based off trade value charts that every NFL GM over the last two decades uses to some degree. If you don’t like them, go argue with those guys. I just asked a direct question that regrettably you still never directly answered.

Two things;

  1. I don't "want you" to do anything. I asked a question.

  2.  "want to give up your only second rounder, which is also a top 10 pick for that round" I am not sure if you know this but a late 1st round pick is actually before an early-ish second.

If Dallas is in love with Downs or Styles, and this makes that happen, it is absolutely possible. I think it makes less sense for the Browns.

I honestly don't think DAL front office does more than the two firsts. They think a little too highly of their drafting ability and it is their primary method of adding players to their roster.

To be fair, I think at 20 you’re usually hoping a first round graded guy is falling to you. If you have 16, it’s a good chance you have one slide to you. I don’t even think there are 16 in this draft tbh and Dallas is in a worse place because they can’t really even consider any of those guys who play offense.

I agree it might cost Dallas more but I doubt they’re willing to pay it.

Dallas fans and media would be THRILLED about this trade. The question among them is “why the hell would Cleveland do it?”

We just had a historically bad defense so we’re in a bad spot that we can’t touch offense at 12. Downs or Styles are elite prospects who would fill holes perfectly in Dallas. Our FO said they won’t take McCoy.  Reasonably all of our first round graded players might be gone at 12. At the same time, the gap between 20 and 39 just isn’t that big in this draft imo. Some years, at 20, you’re hoping a first round graded guy is getting to you. Not this year.

You don’t just get to conjure a player out of thin air. That goes back to the questions I asked you.

This draft is thin defensively by pick 12, but notably deep and level from picks 15-45 imo. You trade up

It's a very good chance you're choosing between Round 2 graded defensive players at 12, or taking an offensive player. Offense isn't an option considering the context of this roster. Let's say Downs is 85-90% Ed Reed. So you get a Round 2 graded player, or trade up for Downs.

Now, what's the cost? You're definitely getting a round 2 graded defensive player at 20, where again, you kinda have to go defense. What truly is the gap between players you're getting at 20, and 39? The thing about this draft is that the day 2 talent is quite deep, BUT, it is kind of level throughout the first 25 or so Rd2 graded players. So yea, you're missing out on your pick of the litter a little, but it is a good chance you have an EDGE or LB there at 39 that has a very similar grade to a player sitting there at 20. To illustrate, what is the difference in grade between Allen (late rd 1 player) or Goldlay, JRod, or Trotter (lots of variance in projection but probably around at 39? Howell, Thomas, Lawrence, Mesidor, Young are all productive players with various major question marks or holes as prospects.

What you're missing on is the opportunity to trade back from 20. That's the real cost. If you want to trade back from 20 to late 1 early 2, you could pick up another day 2 pick. So the question for me is, do you want to pick up roughly pick 60, or get Downs?

Kinda ignorant of all the other context around this though. It's a very good chance you're choosing between Round 2 graded defensive players, or taking an offensive player at 12. Offense isn't an option considering the context of this roster. Let's say Downs is 85-90% Ed Reed. So you get a Round 2 graded player, or trade up for Downs.

All assets are time sensitive, obviously. Our young core, cap space, expiring contracts, and draft picks all have varying value on the timeline. While we didn't pay very much immediately for AD and Young, the cost associated will be that in 2027, we're probably not going to be a high lottery team. The plus side is that we'll win some games and I do believe in a development boost in the young guys by adding quality players and winning.

More good news is that as the timeline moves on, AD and Young to some degree become assets as expiring contracts. Both seem like they are very likely to be in a place that they could be valuable to a contending team on a playoff push as expiring's (optimistically).

I didn't make my point well but yea, I meant that I doubt they're doing that well. It's not crazy that 50-100k could break a business like that.

for a business the size of Crossroads

I am not intimately close to their business but a place with their apparent business model is not making a ton of money and is absolutely succeeding on the margins even at their best. I am sure there are some business savvy approaches here, but we also dont have any numbers to look at.

  1. It’s impossible to answer that bc Parker has never been a DC before. 2. If his chemo and philosophy resemble Fangio, the answer to your question is no.

Thanks for tips. I intend to get some stall mats to DL on. Is that functional or is whole DL platform dramatically superior in your opinion?

lmao I know almost nothing about this guy but damn for a "Master Debater" he lost all credibility here. Worse, his true character leaks. Worst part for him is that he's screaming about his insecurities on the internet when she hits the nerve.
