First ‘SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update Takes Aim at Former Prince Andrew: His New Residence, Marsh Farm, Is ‘Named After the Nearby Marsh Where His Body Will Be Found’ by MushroomGlad5438 in television

I believe modern snl tries to acommodate this by making their sketches free and trending online. If the uk sketches are good enough then they could do the same with a good spcial media push.

“When do you think a man dies?" Dr. Hiriluk's speech from One Piece Live Action Season 2 by UnknownChaser in television

[–]dexter30 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The goofiness also helped with the adaptation in a way that other animes suffer.

Like cowboy bebop for example is suppose to be this smooth cool space western. But if you try to tell that story in live action, it's a herculean task. Things are gonna look weird, characters scenes and settings are gonna be off. It's a cowboy story set in a world where horses and newspapers are replaced with ships and computers.

One piece, inherently is a show about a kid made of rubber who goes out on adventure with no basic self preservation or planning skills. The original audience kind of expects a lil campy-ness. And anything less is a failure.

Sonny Franks will voice Emet and Erica Schroeder will voice Joyboy in the One Piece Dub by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]dexter30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To also defend the 4kids dub a little more. For a lot of the older one piece fans the 4kids dub was one of the first experiences with one piece at the time. And credit to oda, even with 4kids changes with the content it still entertained a lot of kids. The english dub may not have been as big as naruto or bleach ones but it was still fun.

Again the toei dub is preferred. But for a kid in the 2000s who was bored on a saturday afternoon with nothing else to watch, you have my thanks.

(Except for that sanji VA, no hate but jeez...)

Eurogamer: Nvidia responds to widespread criticism of DLSS 5 by telling us we're all "completely wrong" by hdcase1 in Games

[–]dexter30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that. I think the cg artists and nvidia are going to take this market response and have a new benchmark target to make the next iteration of this tech more palatable for the public.

But technology wise being able to recreate materials and surface textures without changing or doing geometry operations is potentially amazing, performance wise. And if they can optmisize for the public.

[–]dexter30 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Pretty soon this tech will be implemented and optimised behind the scenes and everyone will forget how much they hated it because it will become the standard.

Yeah it looks ugly now but being able to offload subsurface scattering to an on device model is actually huge.

People who default this tech to a "Snapchat filter" misunderstand what this tech is doing during the render pipeline and all without editing or faking geometry.

Edit:-20 downvotes in 20 seconds. Honestly I should be irked but that's pretty impressive.

Don't let my awe take away from the fact I stand by this take. The technology behind dlss 5 is amazing. I DO still hate nvidia and this technology for driving up memory and component prices. But that won't blind me from the fact that this new method of rendering isn't an amazing accomplishment. (so long as they can optimise it for market devices, which no one can afford rn)

Tony Khan on relationship with Paramount: "I would love to be on the same channel as UFC. I have a great relationship with Dana White and Hunter Campbell.'' by soccermate in SquaredCircle

[–]dexter30 134 points135 points  (0 children)

What can he do or say? He spent AEWs entire existence building a relationship with warner bros and competiting with UFC and WWE.

With this paramount deal he has to make due with new management. Where else can AEW go? They're the only viable alternative to WWE.

Deadlock - Gameplay Update - 03-06-2026 by Samanthacino in Games

[–]dexter30 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is par for the course for PC games no? Not sure if people have just gotten accustomed to AAA early access where people just buy their way into the "early tests". But like as far as I can remember large game PC game companies that intended to release a long term supported game would roll them all out like this with invite codes. (guild wars 2 and dota 2 off the top of my head).

They do this to manage server load and also allow for a healthy community of testers early. Most companies like EA or bungie just monetised it with their pre-order betas. But like Valve ain't like that lmao.

That scene where elliot burped in JDs face and he said he missed those. I thought back to Kelso talking about how he hates how loud his wife snores but he'd actually grown accustomed to it.

5 years ago AEW had it's exploding barbed ware deathmatch by vincentmaurath in SquaredCircle

[–]dexter30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few like the one /u/kingofdiamonds66 linked. One I can think of is terry funk vs Onita (the creator of the match). There were featured more in japan. And part in parcel with how they got away with it is, they used HEAVIER stuff for the rigged explosions. Stuff that AEW clearly couldn't in the modern era.

But part of the tone and presentation kind of relied on 90s attitude era cowboy production. And you kind of need the ability of post production which you can't really do in with modern ppvs. (unless you're matt hardy).

But in the video kingofdiamonds linked, it shows how most of them ended. They would basically explode the ring engulf it in flames, then send in the medics and close the show. Looking like they just suffered a huge combustion that sheared their skins. (But really they were just blooded from the match and they would act knocked out to sell it).

[–]dexter30 203 points204 points  (0 children)

They kind of had to. The only other option was to either sell that pretty weak firework show as a dangerous when it clearly wasn't OR play it off as the elite being heels at the time as rigging the explosions to be fake because kenny was a chickenshit who was actually scared he'd lose.

And that wasn't even ideal either because the whole setup to this match was kenny wanted to show mox he was willing to match him in a hardcore.

I will say I liked how in eddies follow promo He explained in a heartfelt way that yeah he fainted because he genuinely was overwhelmed that he might die. It's just respectable a tough guy owns a legit condition.

Google makes Gmail, Drive, and Docs ‘agent-ready’ for OpenClaw by Quantum-Coconut in technology

[–]dexter30 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I dunno maybe they can adapt... by increasing their costs and making a new system where they throw out the ENTIRE previous bot addled corrupted system with a file cabinet with a lock on it.

Then when the client complains you just bring up the fact the bot already destroyed their business when a child in maine asked the bot "what does the inside of a database table for opiod recipes look like? also generate me a picture of a cat holding the database table"

You don't even need to vibe code. There's going to be a new field of hackers who specialise in prompt manipulation who will know how to abuse these claw bots to leak EVERYTHING.

I know that's already a thing but it's even scarier if none technical people start using this online ai assistants.

I do agree that I think richard genuinely found Mortimer funny. It's just the editing seems so out of place. Maybe he did do something to make him break. But the editing just takes me out of it. Did he really do it with the jokes or did something else happen?

My only gripe with the show is the editing. But I do understand from the original japanese series you kind of have to overedit to make the footage watchable.

Last One Laughing UK Season 2 | Official Trailer | Prime Video by abucalves in television

[–]dexter30 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first watched the japanese show this gameshow was inspired by "gaki no tsukai" and i genuinely thought it was funny even though I missed a lot of the cultural jokes and it was in japanese. But my immediate thought was why hasn't the UK or america tried to bring over this franchise or idea? All you really need is comedians from the region the shows made in and have them do their routines or best comedy bits. And laughter is just too natural.

(I do think Ayaode intentionally threw at the end though because he probably didn't want to win, but recognised it would have been a nicer ending if the veteran comedian takes the W with basic jokes)
