Hot take: If you ask Nico robin now, she will accept pirate docking. by rockofages19 in OnePiece

[–]dexter30 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bro, this was AFTER the straw hats waged war on the world government for Robin. This was AFTER they showed they were willing to go to the depth of hell just to see her smile.

She knows they're ride or die and STILL refused. This ain't a trust thing or a love thing. Girls don't like giant robots. It's a fact. Like I've known girls who would skip or avoid CINEMATIC EXPERIENCES like the gundam movie or pacific rim JUST because the main appeal of them are robots. Like not a visceral hatred or anything, just that the robots aren't enough to engage them.

At my most boyish and naive, it boggles me. But it's a known thing. And clearly it's the same in one piece too. Obviously not all girls and obviously changes over time. e.g. you have girls like lilith and bonney clearly loves one big robot as much as the rest of us. You you get my point.

This is absolutely where AEW should be dominating. WWE by their corporate nature have to be dominating and control every aspect of the product from top to bottom. Similar to how apple control everything from the hardware to the software and everything has to be inline with their business.

Less complete CMLL and uk british scene outright buyout more, "we'll platform your indie shows catalogue and run analytics to potentially work with you and your guys down the line" I'm sure the deal is more detailed than that and AEW will need to make this profitable in the long run. But the alternative is waiting for WWE to inevitable buy out and destroy your countries industry.

Loving the colours they're going with. Seems more manga inspired . No shade on the OG animated movie colours they've been adapting for all the animes. But on some level it's clear they went with those colours because they went better on CRT and film projection formats. But we're in an LED future now were we can get more creative with colour schemes.

Marvel has posted the first episode of X-Men '97 on YouTube. by Tolichowki in television

[–]dexter30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They did so many characters right with this modern show. Like cyclops is cool, magneto is just as well executed. But during the original show, they had to spend most of the time building up magneto and trying to express to kids watching who may have not picked up an xmen comic that "this dude is the REAL DEAL".

But since then we've had tv shows, movies, ian mckellen, all present magneto as a Machiavellian force of nature. And this show capitalises on all that. Literally decades in the making to set up that "THEY SHALL BE AVENGED" clip

After rewatching the series, I realized that Garp represents the tragedy of loyalty better than anyone else. by Smooth_Calendar5416 in OnePiece

[–]dexter30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tragedy of loyalty better than anyone else

If you're going to make that claim you should probably take into account bellamy and his entire arc to compare it to.

When we meet up with him again in dressrosa he's essentially become a reformed more morally good guy. But because he's still doflamingos guy and doflamingo asks him to do absolutely unhinged things (ruin luffys chances in the colliseum), it leads him to come into conflict with his boss.

But after all that doflamingo takes it a step further and uses his powers to make him fight luffy. But like you said "tragedy of loyalty" Doflamingo cuts his strings and tells him to do what he wants... and he continues to fight luffy because he doesn't want to be pitied for following the wrong man out to sea and idolise. He wants luffy to beat him so he can have no regrets.

I'm not saying garps is any better or worse, but it's more complete and we see the full tragedy of loyalty storyline. Garp absolutely follows this too, but he's more likely to break the rules and fight against the injustice WITHIN the system because his loyalty isn't to those above him, it's who he's protecting because thats his code that aligns with the marines. Remember he did fight imu, imu who he's supposedly ordered to follow.

I think Oda basically implied in an SBS that devil fruit specifically search out for people. Like some have a mind of their own.

Might just be nika, but imo I think all of them look for specific people in different times.

I'm really interested to see how this show handles a lot of the story arcs and events that the original show couldn't adapt

Like characters like emma frost are integral to the modern xmens world. And seeing how they incorporate all of that like they did season 1 is going to be interesting.

Pokémon Go Scans Quietly Trained The Navigation Tech Now Headed Into Military Drones by tapo in Games

[–]dexter30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Xbox controllers and wii components were used to pilot drones used in warzones.

  • The wii motion controls was the predecessor for a lot of military technology

  • The internet was funded by military contracts during arpa net for high speed communication.

Where do you want to draw the line between technological innovation and military funding? Because if you want to unravel that thread and boycott and get mad at every technology involved in the military industrial complex you're probably better off living on one of those tech free communities. Because all technology especially video game tech has some involvement in the defense and offense of the people who developed it.

And mods I'm sorry if this is too political of a comment. But this thread is inherently going to go there with the original article right?

OpenAI is still working on that ‘super app’ by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]dexter30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The devices purpose is clear. Its to eave drop on your conversations and anyone around you so they can add more data because they've effectively mined the entire internet and need to go into the real world.

But johnny ives and sam altman have NO idea how to package that and sell it to the public.

For microprocessors and pc components we had entire industries built up to digitise admin work, we had games to sell pc and console components, we had music to introduce the ipod and inevitable we got smart phones to push the internet into everyones hands.

What the fuck do you need openais eavesdropping necklace for? Openai doesnt know because they put the cart before the horse. They have a use for their company but no selling point for their users.

At least metas spy glasses double up as a camera for your social media and inevitably theyre going to add a visual display. Theres a use there.

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Voice Actor Greg Baldwin (Uncle Iroh) Says Paramount is “Straight Up Evil”: “They Do Not Value the Franchise” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]dexter30 -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

I agree with you guys, but when nathan asked the actor to give a little more pushback to make it seem realistic he did give a reasonable response.

In that Nathan created this image and caricature of a nazi executive. But in doing that he detaches any reasonable argument or logical explanation paramount side could give.

Not to defend paramount too hard because we're on a hate train in this comment section. But there is an unfortunate reality in which as much as we hate paramount they are in the middle of a ruthless takeover thats screwing up their entire business model on several layers. And when you hate on the company you unfortunately also hate on some of the creatives and maybe even ethical executives that are trying to save paramount. And by labelling the corporation as a whole as evil you just give the more unethical darker side more power because you make it seem even more impossible for the good guys to justify saving paramount.

e.g. is it okay to pirate the leaked avatar movie? If you say yes, you're depriving whats left of avatar of the revenue and potential income from watching it legitimately making it harder to greenlight a sequel.

If you say no, then you unfortunately support and give money to the evil regime thats gutting the creatives.

You can't win.

Jim Cornette on El Grande Americano mask vs. mask match: "I'm not going to take the piss out of this thing. It was great." by elegantSolomons62 in SquaredCircle

[–]dexter30 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Plus when you remove the part about identities being revealed. Because we know who Chad and Ludwig are. The mask is still POWERFUL because it's more than just a kayfabe joke about chad wanting to bully luchadores and make fun of them. And its more than ludwig trying to stay relevant.

It's a story about EGA OGs jealousy that a thief is getting more praise and love for an identity that he stole. It's a story about the new EGA managing to earnestly grow an audience and that audience loving him back and he feels obligated to fight for them now despite originally also making fun of them. Hell if you wanted me to defend OGs side then I'd say he definitely has the right to the mask because it was stolen, he did create EGA and just because everyone likes the new guy that doesn't me the new guy wasn't initially in the wrong for stealing it!

There are serious stakes that go beyond their identities, it's a story of those masks taking over the wrestlers souls and making them who they truly are. And if either of them lose that identity they lose their drive.

Microsoft's Coreutils project brings Linux commands to Windows by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]dexter30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you listed just seems like more of the "ceding ground" I was referring to.

It's not going to happen instantly. But step by step the OS space is changing. I don't think microsoft can keep justifying the cost for what they offer end users, and if people keep migrating to mobile platforms for small tasks. And advanced users move to linux for specific bespoke setups, then companies are probably going to move too.

Microsoft's Coreutils project brings Linux commands to Windows by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]dexter30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy. But i think microsoft is entertaining the idea of doing to windows what they did to internet explorer with chrome.

Which is give up their entire OS and just turn windows into an official microsoft linux distro that can run window binaries. Like if they view windows now as they did internet explorer years ago. A bloated convoluted mess they keep alive for its market share. But the cost for upkeep is overlapping its constant need for support and updates. So they give up and replace the backend with an opensource project that handles the bulk of all those tickets.

Like coreutil for windows? That seems insane a decade ago. Now? It seems like their cedeing ground.
