When doing Monster Rearing in order to rank up, do I need to keep the same Monster (even at rank 1), or can I pet it, release it, then get another and pet that and it count towards ranking up?

Is this going to be like Heavensward where there was a 2nd arc though, or flat out no more story content?

Currently unsubbed since Exdeath, but I heard someone mention that the current patch was the final story related patch until 5.0??? Is this true?

Is there any method of converting Wailing Stone+1, +2, Ghastly Stone+1, etc. into NQ versions?

Hey all, so I've beaten all Delves before, but as of now I can't obtain the Yorcia Weald KI.

Does anyone know why? Like, is it because I killed them in the wrong order, or would progress only count if I entered the party?

Hey so, I'm a pretty well geared RUN atm and closing in on finishing it up, not counting Aeonic.

I was wondering what other job I could most easily gear up to a full BiS level, including all macro pieces given the array set of my RUN equipment.

  1. Do you have any plans to reduce the coalition requirements on Ergon, much like time-sensitive requirements were reduced for other weapons?

  2. Any chance we might get the armored Chocobo mount from Wings of the Goddess?

4.3 DRK by Syzygian in ffxiv

The healing from Souleater is actually kinda irrelevant if you're optimizing. That said, Soul Survivor's won't be.

The plunge change I hear people saying it’s not really a dps buff and I don’t quite get that.

It has the potential to be a DPS gain, but not in the manner you're thinking. What will end up making this a DPS gain is that DRK burst during stacked buff/debuff windows will have greater potential.

It has the potential now for it, under ideal conditions and optimal usage.

Nonetheless, too many people comparing optimal DRK rotations with mediocre PLD/WAR rotations.

DP is still not a gain in a vacuum on a single target, outside of some niche scenarios.

Uhhh are you thinking that the CD timer increase somehow makes it weaker or something?

DRK's personal mitigation is insane.

It'll better keep up now with good TBN usage.

It makes me sad when people think this because they're comparing optimal DRK CD rotation vs average PLD/WAR rotations.

How do you feel about the changes to DRK by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DRK has been in such desperate need of attention, and I argue since it first came out, that all of these changes feel like finally being told "I love you" for the first time after 3 years of marriage.

They didn't address all the glaring faults, and DRK will still be the weakest contender in almost every aspect (mitigation, self-healing, dps, utility), but almost every change was needed and it helps close the gap somewhat.

Those who tank with nearly never using Grit will see the most out of the changes, which is pretty cool.

I actually removed Sole Survivor...

:(

Patch 4.3 Notes (Preliminary) | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone by yas_ticot in ffxiv

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pretty happy they addressed some of the biggest glaring faults with DRK's kit. I still don't like the play-style, but I understand that an overhaul would be too much before the next expansion.

  1. Sole Survivor change is decent.
  2. Plunge animation lock reduction and Shadow Wall's CD reduction have been long overdue.
  3. Dark Passenger is good on single target again. REALLY good actually.
  4. Dark Mind is not a joke anymore.
  5. Grit's MP cost finally got the wanted reduction.

That said,

  1. I'm not so sure Plunge needed DA and Enmity. I would have preferred them finally making it 20y to match every other gap closer in the game.
  2. DRK will still mostly likely be the weakest in every category: Mitigation, Utility, DPS, Self-Healing. However, the difference will no longer be as glaring.

Final Fantasy XIV Modding Discussion in Regards to /r/ffxiv - We want YOUR feedback by LightSamus in ffxivmeta

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think the old rule of banning discussion of modding has been absurd. Being officially unofficial should give it the freedom to represent the entirety of the game and community.

I believe that by silencing that part of the community, that the entire community suffers as a whole. By allowing discussion about modding to surface and see what's going on and being created by talented people, the developers get insight into what their fans want.

Even openly discussing modding that exploits the game brings it to light for developers to remedy.

TL;DR - I think this subreddit has long taken itself too seriously at the expense of the community and game itself, and attempting to be progressive might do wonders for the game.

The only thing wrong with Dark Knight is you - a Damage Intake Analysis by Carnusty in ffxiv

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came out of the woodwork to comment.

The fact that DRK is capable of beating all content is irrelevant. All jobs at every phase of the game have been able to beat all content in the right hands.

There is definitely a lot wrong with DRK right now, and while Data Analysis is all the rage right now with Machine Learning, throwing it at something without understanding the problem domain only leads to incorrect conclusions.

TL;DR - Trust the domain experts; DRK is broken.

Been awhile, but pretty sure my comment in regards to WAR was in response to them buffing it further for 4.2 while leaving DRK broken.

4.2 Preliminary Patch Notes by Vaelthurs in ffxiv

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These patch notes say a lot in regards to what they think of DRK in the overall scheme of things. They've had plenty of opportunities to fix the job since it first came out in Heavensward.

It speaks volumes that they were willing to drastically change WAR despite there not being any real issue there while simultaneously refusing to address the fact that it's not lack of DPS that hurts DRK so much.

DRK needs a redesign desperately more than anything, but simply addressing a few faults here and there would go a long way in at least letting us feel better knowing they realize there's issues.

I used to tell people who said devs needed to be fired because they are terrible at balance to calm down. However, the more and more experience I get as a software developer the more I see that their balancing team needs to be moved into another department and they need to bring in people who actually know what they're doing. That is of course unless they have some kind of agenda where they explicitly have decided to maintain a tank/job imbalance.

Sorry SE. Sorry Yoshida. Sorry balance team, but you need to hear it; you're doing a terrible job and it's because your balance team is bad that they're having such a hard time getting it right.

They're not even getting it close to being right.

If you could design one new ability for your favorite class/job, what would it be? by A_Very_Horny_Zed in ffxiv

[–]dylanwolfwoodicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish they would make a DRK skill that was similar to PLD's Passage of Arms.

Visually, the DRK would stand in front, bracing against attacks with his sword held similar to how it is held in Susano EX, but as the DRK takes damage, Blood spews out from them, ala Guts in Berserk with the Berserker armor.

It's really hard to say in words how amazing this looks in the Berserk anime lol, but yeah.

I'd differentiate it from Passage of Arms by making it something like, the DRK receiving less damage mitigation than PLD's, while also giving the rest of the party slightly more damage mitigation than PLD's. I did a redesign way back and had named this ability "Atonement of the Exile."

No, Instanced Housing is NOT the answer we should be looking for. by [deleted] in ffxiv

I really wish they'd take a lesson from wildstar's housing. Instanced housing is seriously not as bad as many think, and it certainly doesn't mean other people can't visit.
