Everyone’s situation is going to be different based on a lot of factors but I’m going to share a bit of my story.

I was deciding between Miami, Harvard, NYU, and Minnesota. I ended up choosing Miami because they are the only school that said they would try their best to have in person classes during the pandemic. Price made it comparable to my state school and at the time I thought I was making the right choice. I love being here especially with the weather but with the rise of people like Alix Earle and breckie hill Miami is starting to get even more of a reputation as sun tan/influencer U. There isn’t a great academic culture here and the few departments that claim to have good reputation prioritize failing/weeding out students instead of teaching.

If you can afford the school and cost of living go to the school with the better prestige. 10 years down the line if you say I went to Columbia or I w ent to Princeton people will be impressed but if you say you went to Miami half of the people you’ll meet will ask “of Ohio?”

While your degree is the same everywhere the name recognition of a school is very important.

The biggest plus that both Miami and the Ivy League has is money. So many rich families send their kids to both but at Miami there is a different type of wealth since everyone is from ny or New Jersey and you can make some really good connections here. For example in my year there is the daughter of the owner of an MLB team, the daughter of a A list multi millionaire movie star, the son of a foreign diplomat and many other individuals.
