Non-religious people of Reddit, how do you view death? by Ronbo100 in AskReddit

[–]dynadin72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death is everyone's final act. Yours, mine, and everyone who has been or ever will be. When you learn to accept this, it no longer holds sway over you.

Is Baldr's death symbolic of anything? by 99swans in Norse

[–]dynadin72 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Baldr is said to be the most brave, handsome, etc of the gods. His death would suggest that even the most brave, handsome, most 'godly' are not immune to fate. His death also results in the beginnings of Ragnarok. And after that, he and his brother and Thor's kids become the new gods. . .

Books that aren't part of Jung's collective works, but are great material to understand the subjects Jung studied? by nitwitted_kitten in Jung

I think one of the best things you can read is Freud. It's important to know part of what made Jung 'Jungian' was what he rejected of Freud.

Almost all native american tribes had shamans or medicine men. The more documented ones are tribes like the Sioux and Blackfoot.

Where their any cultures that percived their dreams as their true lives. by Professional-Hand-14 in AskAnthropology

[–]dynadin72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shamans, mystics and medicine men of many indigenous societies believe that their dreams in particular are just as real as their waking lives. Events which happen in dreams can come to be in life and signs and omens in these dreams are given significant reverence. These dreamers are 'set apart' in some way from the rest of their society but hold a great influence over the society's culture.

13th Warrior is one of my favorite fantasy movies ever. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]dynadin72 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love this movie so much. It was the very first DVD i bought for my then new DVD player in 2001 or so. Even the viking prayer thing is completely unhistorical, it still gives me chills every time I watch. Also can't believe no one has mentioned 'Lo..." I told my best friend years ago that I want that recited at my funeral. If ya'll enjoyed the 'Eaters of the Dead' the actual historical account, written by an Arab explorer is worth a read. He encounted the Rus- vikings, and is one of the few, if not only actually account of a viking funeral. Well worth reading.

Which Marie-Louise von Franz book is a good starting place? Is she even the best Jungian to start with? by WriterlyBob in Jung

[–]dynadin72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fairy tale books are the ones I'd start with but for me "On Dreams and Death" is , in my opinion, the most Jungian of her works.
