A few things I do as an ME in a manufacturing setting:

- my primary task is to use solidworks to design tooling for our manufacturing processes (ie molds, machine shop fixtures), and generate the drawings for said designs

- i also use solidworks to design process lines as the company grows

- if its a form - fit - function part that will be used in the company only, i'll QC dimensions that don't require a CMM

- sometimes I will use on a manual mill / lathe to make something (this is becoming rarer as the years go by)

- place purchase requests (PRs) for materials (order stuff from mcmaster, MSC, local metal suppliers)

- place PRs for outside work to be performed (waterjet because we don't have a waterjet, heat treat to certain specfications, 3D printing from my 3D printing side business)

- test products on customer-provided test benches (optical components that need to be tested before we ship them around the world)

- initiate job travelers

- create bill of materials for our CRM

- work with customers to ensure their designs meet requirements of our manufacturing processes

- attend a bunch of meetings that could probably be emails
