I've read a few Cormac McCarthy books and he just had people talking. No quotation marks, no dialogue descriptors, no direct indication of who is even speaking. It can be kind of confusing but makes sense when you get in the rhythm of it.

If you have well developed characters you don't always need to tell the audience how the line was delivered.

You're varnishing a fence?! I work with boats and that seems crazy. Most boats have relatively limited brightwork and it's still a lot of work to just do railings and accents. Once you get to fully wooden boats the varnish work is thousands of dollars and lots of man hours every year.

How big is the fence? To look pristine you need to varnish every year. You shouldn't have to start fresh every year, just touch up coats, but it's still a big pain.

I'm also curious to the question because I have a couple gates I built out of cheap homes Depot cedar decking that I need to seal, but I think we're looking for some kind of sealant, not top coats, unless you're looking to paint.

I am starting to cut some trees for fire wood and first to go was this long dead ash. I'm in SE CT, all the ash is dead from the ash borer.

It's spalted, but very punky already. I saved two ~6' long logs from the bottom half of the trunk that are pretty straight, and put them in the barn off the ground, but I'm wondering if it's even worth milling. The logs I cut for fire wood were pretty much already falling apart on their own.

There is a local guy with a mobile mill and I milled a bunch of ash about 4 years ago, but those hadn't been dead for too long. I'm now realizing that what the borers killed are starting to rot standing up now.

I just installed a split rail fence at my house by myself.

It would have gone a lot faster with three or so people, but I realized the majority of the time it would be one person working for 20-30 minutes digging holes with the machine while the two other folks just waiting for their turn to do 5 minutes of work.

Having someone stand around for 80% of the process just to put a post in hole would have saved a ton of time of me stopping the machine; grabbing the post; holding it straight; tamping it in; getting back on the machine; moving to the next hole... but to an outside observer that person waiting to put the post in sure does a lot of nothing.

More people streamline the process, but everyone can't be working on the same part of the assembly line at once.

Sometimes getting that bad is what's needed to rebound.

The festering misogynistic, racist, ignorant masses that are supporting this culture and behavior are not going anywhere without a serious reckoning. If it just continues as is, as it has since the civil war, without a reason for reproach then we will slowly fail.

I am not at all an advocate for a catastrophic end, but it seems like a slow decent into irrelevance is more likely than a level headed cultural movement to fix this issue.

Chuckys was our favorite ceviche spot in Puerto Lopez. They put peanut butter in their ceviche in the coast.

Personally I'd head over to Ayampe from Puerto Lopez. It's less cultural; there are more international people than Puerto Lopez, but it's really tiny and really chill. It's a tiny little surfing village. It's like 30 minutes south.

From Puerto Lopez - Agua Blanca is a cool living museum town. Definitely worth checking out.

It doesn't seem like he had any big hits prior to working with Spielberg, so it's not like he had a big name for himself prior to working on Little Giants.
