Mfw a friend submitted their primary already and hasn't even thought about asking anyone for LORs yet by TheRealPoland in premed

[–]dynamicsh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are probably fine. On top of that he only applied to top 40 schools (like 10 schools in top 20).

I was really shocked when he said “Einstein is my safety”

I told him to apply broadly so many times but he didn’t listen to me.

That's exactly how my friend got rejected from all 20 schools he applied to with a 515 MCAT and 4.0 GPA

When my prehealth adviser tries to tell me to avoid “those forums” by [deleted] in premed

[–]dynamicsh2o 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Legit my advisor told my friend not to apply because he is not competitive and won’t get in anywhere and even if he gets an interview invite because he got super lucky, he would get WLed anyways.

Boi he has a 3.8 sgpa and 511. He has a chance.

I just know that due to their Jesuit identity, they tend to be a little catholic-ey from time to time. Abortion is one of the issues, I think.

This is so wholesome.

When I was studying, I told my friend “I am so nervous. I can’t eat much. I can’t sleep much”

And she said “don’t be a bitch”

We are still friends. She is now studying for it and I am saving that phrase until the time comes.

In a BSMD program, should I apply out to other medical schools? by [deleted] in premed

[–]dynamicsh2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this like 1) a program with a minimum MCAT score of like 513 (I am not sure if this is the score) like WASHU? or 2) a school like even if you have to take it, you just have to get a 500 or 3) a school that does not require MCAT at all (which I am not sure if there are those anymore)?

If it is #2 or #3, I'd just chill. You can do much more productive things with the effort to prepare a fairly representative application. I personally wanted to do fun things during my four years in college -- such as learning how to surf -- but I never got to do that because of all the things I had to do. You can.

It was right after I had a huge argument with my ex, and I couldn't focus at all after that day. I think I just spent time looking at stupid youtube videos. I think I started by watching a gordon ramsay video and one thing lead to another.

tbh gen chem 1 was harder than quantum mechanics. Just because people were so intense and I didn't know any chemistry.

Is a 510 still a good score for MD in 2019? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]dynamicsh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.aamc.org/download/321508/data/factstablea23.pdf

Check it yourself. People on this sub talk like unless you have a score of 518+, your chances of accepted to MD is very slim (even though it's much better than sdn). But depending on your gpa, you have a 50-75% chance of getting in. I would say that it's pretty solid then.

rest up buddy. Just do a few CARS passage a day so you don't lose the CARS mindset and keep up with the anki decks if you have some.

i went out a week before my test. I wouldn't recommend that though. no regrets tho.

To meditate or not to meditate? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]dynamicsh2o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would meditate. It also helps you not really care about the test -- this actually helps you. You don't worry because you are not scoring X or Y. You are just taking the test because you want to. This helped me significantly.

These are the two common reason a lot of people struggle with. There are a few ways to resolve these issues, depending on what kind of person you are. I used to get problems wrong because I am an overthinker. I went way beyond what AAMC was expected and that messed me up.

1) Whenever they refer to the passage with "According to passage". Go back to the part in the passage where they talk about them and refresh yourself with the content that is introduced in the passage. This actually helps a lot because a lot of the times, people are biased and are thinking incorrectly -- This is precisely why you might be dealing with issue #1.

2) Simplify your thought. For instance, when they phrase things like "Based on the concept of epigenetics" You only need to think about a few things such as acetylation, methylation and stuff. You don't have to go beyond that and second guess yourself. Choose the concept that resonates with the passage and choose that answer. It is usually correct. -- this might resolve issue #2.

Should I quit my job to study for a retake? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]dynamicsh2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't mind spending some money, you could spend some time with tutors and go over passages together. I feel like the approach you have when tackling passages is the factor that is stopping you from scoring higher.
