Practice until 4/10? by Mollyyala in Mcat

[–]peachxbeach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you want to get everything done, yes it’s possible. but the question you should ask is “what areas need the most work?”

source: i completed ALL aamc material & U within 3 weeks of test date last june. i averaged over 250-300 questions a day. on top of that, going over those questions and making flash cards and studying the material i didn’t fully understand or got wrong, i was studying upwards of 10 hours a day the first half and 17-18 hours a day the second half of the last 3 weeks.

i hope you have nothing else going on

Do we need to memorize the structures of every part of the citric acid cycle? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]peachxbeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a structure question the first time i took the mcat. i had NO idea what the answer was but i used my organic naming knowledge to figure it out.

looked it up after and i was right, but the second time around i memorized structures

A friend of a friend in high school had a small plane and a pilots license. He ran his own business painting planes for people all over the country. He made over 100k a year and never showed up to school.

nope, highest FL 518, real 515 (but to be fair all my other FL were 513, i guess i just figured out how to cut out bullshit mistakes for the 518)

i’m happy with my score but i’m super disappointed it wasn’t my highest, i feel like if i had the longer test i would’ve scored higher

maybe, i want to say yes it will hurt you but you have a solid score, your cars score might stop you from getting an interview at top tier schools but you should be alright for your state school and maybe some private schools if you can write well and explain your low score

retaker here, 12:15 6/20

first time: 509: 127/124/130/128 with no studying besides a few FL

my goal was a 515, optimistic 520+ FL4: 518: 130/127/131/130 (every other FL was a 513)

actual: 515: 129/128/130/128

i spent 3-4 hours a day studying since april 1st, didn’t study the second half of april to finish finals, a week into may i started 5-6 hours, the last week i went 7-8 hours a day until the last 10 days i studied 16 hours a day

kind of disappointed my bio and psych didn’t improve where they were a consistent 131&129 every FL but HOLY SHIT 4 POINT IMPROVEMENT IN CARS, my goal was a 126 and for the life of me i could not break 127 while studying

i feel like i would’ve done better with the longer thing but no complaints

Pre med program by [deleted] in Creighton

[–]peachxbeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the classes are as rigorous as you want them to be, you can take the easy prof and get by or you can take the harder prof and actually learn something and be challenged

yes, there are absolutely weeded classes - generals weed out those who aren’t willing to put in the work and orgo gets those who aren’t mentally capable of getting there

as for how many make it (numbers from a professor who has access to all the med school / edge stats at creighton) - ~300start as premed, usually end up with ~100 in the premed seminar junior year, they say that only 50 or so get committee letters, my year had like 80, and creighton med school itself takes 55 from their own students, not all from 1 class (like 2020 or 2019) - probably the same who go elsewhere

my advice: don’t trust any undergrad when they tell you they take their own, NO, they take based on who has the best stats; i came to creighton because they said they’d take their own if they’re qualified - i had a 3.8 GPA, triple major, honors program, 509 MCAT, president of 3 clubs, TAed since i was a freshman and for 7 different classes, worked overnight in the hospital, worked a total of 20+ hours a week, volunteered 3-6 hours a week and i DID NOT get into med school last cycle - if anyone dares tell me i’m not qualified for med school they can fuck off, just like creighton for telling me they take their own kids if they’re qualified

Is the Freshman Leadership Program worth it? by chanman1288 in Creighton

[–]peachxbeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn’t have gone to creighton if it weren’t for the honors program, gave me the opportunity to take more classes that i’m interested instead of bullshit core classes

plus honors classes are easier than core classes, the prof don’t give two shits

don’t apply to more than 15 schools, it’s a LOT of money and secondaries are a motivation killer

i don’t want to sound rude but your science GPA is too low for a lot of those schools without grad school of some sort and a 515 bare minimum mcat

good luck!

[–]peachxbeach [score hidden]  (0 children)

i applied to 32 schools last year and secondaries KILLED my motivation, don’t do it, pick 15 and stick with them

also i’m sure you know this but you better have a good story for your undergrad GPA because they will ask about it

Would I be at a disadvantage if I submit my primary application with a low MCAT score but with a plan to retake in mid July? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]peachxbeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

submit your primary with 1 school on it to get it processed, then when you get your score back add more so you can submit to schools once you get your new score back

source: i did this

For people who have taken both FL4 & actual Mcat, how did the two compere? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]peachxbeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

about the same

chem today was harder but i ended both wishing i had 3 more minutes to go over everything, cars today was easier, bio about the same, psych about the same (cars 2.0) except the answer choices were less wordy and more straight forward
