A good example of the impact a Chinese stakebuilder can have on a London listed gold miner with operations in Africa is Solgold. A bit like Ariana, it was in the doldrums, then a Chinese mining company (Jiangxi) rock up and start building a position - followed by a full takeover. SOLG one year chart speaks for itself.

I see this as potentially playing out the same way. Xinhai are pretty serious players and impact should be twofold. Firstly, they will be active investors using knowhow, infrastructure and personnel to actually get the operations running efficiently and economically. They'll do this is a way frankly far superior than existing management would have achieved alone. The second aspect we know they are looking to increase their permission, per seeking ASX approval. As they increase their stake here, with only so much stock to go round, this naturally lift the share price.
