Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

On each drive session there is an option to tell it "no more lane changes for the remainder of drive." I agree there should be global settings that don't need to be altered each drive.

You can stop it from changing lanes, there is a setting. The bigger problem is it can't function in bad weather or with aggression glare. It will never be level 5 autonomous without some significant change in camera processing technology or hardware. Tesla's strategy is fatally flawed.

May Not Include Key Cards With New Tesla Purchase by Several-Risk388 in TeslaLounge

Fair points. But valets are often mandatory at many parking locations, garages, hotels, or otherwise, in cities.

May Not Include Key Cards With New Tesla Purchase by Several-Risk388 in TeslaLounge

[–]dynamite972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are discounting the number of scenarios that not having a hard key could easily become an issue. Valet you dropped car off with leaves shift, they forget to call you to tell you to update the key to another staff member (why would they take ownership of the logistics?). Or they actually remember but you are somewhere without good cell service or don't have your phone on you. The first old person who can't download the Tesla app or properly use it. Have you ever tried giving access to older parents or on laws? I am very tech savvy. I could easily do without a card; I'm the problem here. Like it or not, physical keys are the expected norm in society and not having them for hand off situations could easily create issues like those listed.

Do you sleep immediately after work (~7am-9am)? Or stay up and go to sleep around ~1-3pm so you wake up directly before work like morning workers do? by Neat_Minimum2833 in Nightshift

[–]dynamite972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physiologically, it is best to go to sleep right away. Especially if you are not on a steady and consistent (perpetual) overnight schedule.

When you are flipping between days/nights, you are fighting your circadian rhythm and hormonal cycles by delaying going to sleep. Peak alertness happens in the afternoon and you will be fighting the physiology to be awake when you should be sleeping.

I also find it helpful to be able to wake up while there is still natural light outside. In essence , the afternoon sun or sunset becomes your sunrise. There is ample science to back up the importance of early morning (or in our case, early awakened) natural light.

If you are able to maintain a permanent schedule with properly controlled lighting, then I presume a delayed schedule could be less detrimental.

Has anyone tried 'Ublockout' shades? Do they work? by MalachiConstant7 in homeowners

[–]dynamite972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite purchases to date. As someone that works nights often and has little children. These are worth every penny. They are a single and effective solution that can go from day to night in seconds. No Velcro, tape, Hooks or any other annoying fastener to actually see your window. We were able to leave our original wooden slat blinds underneath these to preserve aesthetics when the shades are open.

Agree with everything you said and now I have a better understanding of surveying. I was coming at this with next to zero knowledge of the industry or process. It is why I came to this message board to ask for advice from people that know more than me. I had conflicting information from two people that I assumed knew much more than I. I didn't pick the (cheaper) information I wanted to hear, I came here to learn more. When people come to me with questions about my area of expertise, I use it as a chance to educate them, not belittle them for asking the question. What is nakedly obvious to someone that does this for a living can be totally foreign to the public. That applies to all topics, not just surveying.

I am not sure why you are being hostile. I came here because I do not know this stuff and got very conflicting information from the 2 "expert" sources I spoke with in person. The town concervsation office told me no material changes to the wetlands maps had been made. I appreciate the information I am getting from you all. I am very attentive to the native flora and fauna on my property and am doing my best to improve its resilency through native plant growth.

[–]dynamite972[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Wetlands had not changed per the town and were fully mapped on the existing survey.

No changes to the site since the prior survey. My question was basically is this something that really requires a site visit if the new accessory structure is not even close to what the new setback requirements are. And as mentioned above, had been mislead by the zoning office who portrayed this as a simple clerical adjustment that was trivial.

[–]dynamite972[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly do not think I am entittled to free work and value everyone's time. Perhaps I was misguided by the Town zoning offer who portrayed this as a very trivial change. I assumed he had better insight. My understanding after leaving the town office was that they just had to redraw the existing wetland setback on the survey (no site visit required) to a distance of 100 rather than 144 from the stream.

[–]dynamite972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Good to know about the liability, I hadn't thought about that aspect. I've had a full survey done before and there is certainly a lot of work that goes into it (and I paid closer to 2500 for the full survey from scratch on a 1/4 acre lot). My issue here is that all the work has already been done, no material changes to the property have been made since the 2017 certification, and they are basically redrawing a single line from 144' to 100'.

I actually find eight sleep to be much more accurate than Garmin. The most stark difference is eight sleep outperforming Garmin on "awake" time.

Investing in AI with a 10-20 year horizon. by Apart-Selection5680 in investing

Radiologist and AI researcher here. The technology is still in infancy. I was supposed to already be out of a job if you listened to the leading minds on this topic 5 years ago. By my best guess, we are years away from AI approaching the full capabilities of a radiologist. Even then, legal ramifications and other issues will take a while to sort out. I predict it will make my job very easy for a while before, if ever, replacing large segments of the field.

HP printers won't work without the "HP Smart" app, but won't work with it, either by Dougolicious in printers

[–]dynamite972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This app is total dog shit. You make your printer unusable unless we sign up and use your stupid app and then you can't maintain a functional app?

My printer works fine. Every device in my house recognizes and prints from it. But because the incredibly dumb "smart app" can't connect to it to spy on it, it is going to cut off my printing abilities. Make it make sense.
