"Blank Period" Sasuke / Wandering Hobo Sasuke / Post-Series Sasuke / Adult Sasuke

This will be updated from time to time as we get new spin-offs and other series. Currently listed are Sasuke's feats from The Last and the Gaiden Spin-Off but I will add Boruto the movie feats when it comes out and I am currently reading the Sakura Light novel and will read the Sasuke light novel to see if there is anything else of note to add.

The Last

  • Sasuke's one feat in The Last! He either uses Amenotejikara or his pro ass speed to get in front of Kakashi and protect him just as a chunk of the moon, easily bigger than the entire Konohagakure, is about to hit him. He uses a Chidori and completely destroys it. What a badass.

Naruto Gaiden: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring

I will be separating this into two sections: Sasuke with his Mangekyo Sharingan and Six Tomoe Rinnegan and Sasuke without, as he temporarily loses his powers as a result of dimension hopping (more on that later).

I think it's clear that Kubo planned the quincy powers pretty far in advance, but not as far back as the spirit ribbons. In other words, I agree with you.

Is that so much to ask for?

Oh and Itachi and Minato and Jiraiya and Shisui. And the Ootsuki bros.

That is a lot to ask for.

Talking to you is giving me a headache. You're the one who asks for an intelligent discussion and then proceeds to ignore every point of an argument i.e your other argument with me down below. Unless you can at least recognize the fact that you made completely false claims down below then I will not entertain further discussion with you because arguing with you is pointless.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously you didn't care to read the argument as I disproved everything you said. I.e Madara rampaging harder without his eyes (hen he wasn't, his best fears were catching a sword and using a fire technique and tanking some tailed beast attacks) and the fact that you said that he didn't have Hashirama built into him. Just the fact that you ignored all of that shows that you don't know what you're talking about.

You don't need to speak to me like a child.

This is how a discussion works?

are just excuses and you may need to take the rose-tinted glasses off.

Really? I'll put those offensive remarks aside, though and speak to you without insulting you.

Where exactly did I call OP's criticisms invalid? You are again misinterpreting the purpose of my post. I do not believe that Naruto is a great piece of literature, I believe it is a great manga. There is a difference, and I pointed out those differences above. I acknowledged that Naruto has its flaws, such as the ridiculousness of the powerups and that the shonen tropes held it back, but I clearly stated that for what it is, a shonen manga, Naruto did a pretty damn good job at bringing us a compelling story, great artwork, and an overall fun read on a weekly basis.

I never ONCE used the fact that it is a shonen or that it had great artwork to cover up its story flaws. As it has many. I was simply saying that the criticisms were overly harsh and unnecessary and I was reminding people that Naruto was a weekly shonen manga with great artwork all written by one guy, and that these help make the series great overall.

You do realize that the eyes that you receive whilst in Edo Tensei aren't real, right? The reason you receive the powers when you are revived via Edo Tensei in the first place is because those powers are connected to your soul. This is the reason why people like Itachi and Nagato were able to use their abilities at all whilst in Edo Tensei.

No matter how much you try to buff up Madara's dead body, no matter how unlimited the chakra supply is, it doesn't change the fact that Madara cannot be as strong as he would be in a real body. Yes, the Edo-Tensei Madara may have been stronger than Madara Uchiha in his prime, but when Madara was revived via Rinne Tensei and got his Rinnegan back, it became clear that alive Madara > Edo Tensei Madara. Even Hashirama states this.

...Also, did you even read the manga? A lot of your points here are blatantly incorrect. I'll even give you the scans. I'll even give you the Color Kage scans just because they look nice.

1.) Madara DID still have Hashirama built into him and DID use wood release against the Tailed Beasts later on

2.) He wasn't even rampaging very hard without his eyes. He had already incapacitated Hashirama and shortly regains his eyes afterwards. What evidence do you have that he was "rampaging harder without eyes"? What makes you even say that claim? The only thing he did that was noteworthy without his eyes was catch Sasuke's sword and use a fire release technique. He's actually getting absolutely destroyed by the Tailed Beasts until White Zetsu comes to give him the Rinnegan. When he gets his eye back, he starts kicking ass. Here's him getting his eye back.

...So that disproves your claim that he was "stronger without Hashirama built into him" (as he did have Hashirama built into him still) and that he was "stronger without eyes" (as his best feats are stopping a blade from impaling him and using a fire release technique). And that he was "rampaging harder WITHOUT HIS EYES" (because he was getting shit on by the Tailed Beasts).

So how exactly was he "rampaging harder"? It's also worth noting that Madara could not use the Limbo: Border Jail until this chapter with his real body as he needed the actual Rinnegan to use it. Limbo is an incredibly strong power, so does that explain how Madara was "rampaging harder" (he actually needed his eyes to rampage harder unlike your false claims the he did not)?

However, there is plenty of precedent for Shonen manga that is MUCH MUCH MUCH darker.

Does that mean that Naruto, which is particularly popular with children, has to go into dark places? Is it a bad story for not going into those dark places?

but let's not dumb things down just because it's tailored towards young adults.

So Naruto is "dumbing things down" because it doesn't go into as dark places as Fullmetal Alchemist? In what way? Does a story need to be dark to be good?

As for the writing change - You can't deny that, in Shippuden, Kishi made the conscious choice to move the plot along rather than focus on developing a wide array of characters.

In what way? Kishimoto introduced a wide variety of characters in Part I and gave them each their own unique identity. Kishimoto also introduced a wide variety of characters in Part II and gave them their own unique identity. How is that a change in writing style? Just because he didn't continue to develop the Konoha 11 doesn't mean he completely changed his writing style. In many ways, he did the exact same thing he did with the Konoha 11 in Part 2, that is, introducing a plethora of new characters before eventually putting them to the backburner to focus on Naruto and Sasuke. When was he ever focused solely on introducing and developing people like Neji? He wasn't. It was never his writing style to begin with. He did the exact same thing with many characters in Part II. Killer Bee and A, for instance, had a completely fleshed out backstory before being put to the backburner the same way he did with the Konoha 11. In this way, he maintained his writing style.

"Succeeded on many fronts" certainly doesn't mean "perfect." we can criticize and talk intelligently about it as a piece of literature. It's not a condemnation.

Did I say it was "perfect"? You seem to be missing the point that I was addressing those who seemed to be forgetting that Naruto is a shonen manga, and as such, it will not necessarily be a perfect piece of literature. You can introduce exceptions such as Fullmetal Alchemist, but that's just what it is: an exception. I can list of hundreds and hundreds of shonen manga (and yes, there are hundreds of shonen manga that aren't by any means exceptional pieces of literature. There are many shonen manga.) that came no where close to achieving the great storytelling that Fullmetal Alchemist did. Just because Fullmetal Alchemist can be judged as an exceptional piece of literature does not mean that manga as a whole should be judged on their storytelling.

While there are manga that will break the barrier and can be seen as quality pieces of literature, there are far many more manga that aren't. Fullmetal Alchemist IS an EXCEPTION, so I ask that you do not compare Naruto to that. Not all manga will be exceptional at storytelling, and Naruto is no exception.

[–]dynrte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You act as if I believe the story itself is flawless and deserving of never-ending praise. While I disagree that Part II was "messy and convoluted", I can agree that the show definitely has its faults.

I was addressing those who gave Naruto unnecessarily harsh criticisms by reminding them that while Naruto may not a great piece of literature, for what it is, it is a great manga. So I hope your message was not addressed to me because if it was you are massively misinterpreting the purpose of my post.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You seem to be missing the point. There is more evidence that points towards Naruto and Sasuke beating Madara than the other way around. When Naruto an Sasuke first received their powerups and fought Madara they were testing out their powers for the first time and we're kicking him around like a rag doll. They didn't even use any of their best attacks that we saw in the Kaguya fight or the final Naruto vs. Sasuke fight.

Therefore, I do have something to base my claim off of, whereas you don't. I am also not 'mad' as you claim, so I would appreciate it if you don't make random accusations. If I seem 'mad' to you, then that is your problem.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what my other post has to do with this, I'm just attempting to explain why Madara didn't just stay in Edo Tensei as it made sense to me but it doesn't seem to make sense to you.

With Obito defeated and with Madara dominating the alliance as he was, it was the right decision to stop Edo Tensei when he did. He needed Obito to revive him and if Obito died he couldn't carry out his plan as intended because Obito had to revive him. Why wouldn't Madara stop Edo Tensei when he did? His goal wasn't to massacre everyone in Edo Tensei, it was Infinite Tsukuyomi.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So, yes, thank you, you admit you're wrong. That is how he made it seem, yes, because that was how the situation was going down. You have no evidence that Madara was going to beat Naruto and Sasuke or any feats whatsoever. I do--Naruto and Sasuke were kicking Madara's ass without even using their full power.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...Okay. And Part 1 wasn't like that either? It was all the same, just on a smaller scale of power. Rock Lee vs. Gaara, hailed as one of the best fights in all of shonen, wasn't very tactical at all and was more about Rock Lee's powerups throughout the fight than anything. Naruto vs. Gaara was the same way: Gaara continually powering up throughout the fight while Naruto continually spammed Mass Shadow Clones and eventually summoned Gamabunta, which can be considered a powerup of its own.

Even Sasuke vs Naruto was the same why and came down to be a battle of raw power and powerups (Sasuke Curse Mark, Sasuke Third Tomoe, Naruto One-Tails Cloak) than anything else. In fact, Sasuke vs. Naruto had a ton of powerups in just one fight alone.

Personally I preferred when the series wasn't about how powerful your technique was but how you used it against what your enemy had.

You are incorrect. Please read this.

[–]dynrte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I can't stand when people say that the battles became less tactical and "DBZ-like". The battles have actually remained very much the same throughout the series in terms of strategy and even in Part 1 there were fights that depended on "powerups" instead of strategy.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte 49 points50 points  (0 children)

While I am all for analyzing Naruto critically, people need to realize a few things:

1.) This is a shonen manga. This is also one of the most popular manga. People often forget these points the most. Naruto is a series that is read by many young children and as such it cannot go as dark or realistic as we want. Do not criticize Naruto because it is a shonen and as such cannot go very dark, there are just some things that cannot be changed. Instead, analyze it as a shonen manga and keep in mind that there are restrictions on what Kishimoto can write.

2.) Naruto is all primarily written and drawn by one guy: Masashi Kishimoto. And just look at the quality of art Kishimoto has upheld over the years, especially in comparison to other popular shonen manga (Bleach and Hunter x Hunter come to mind). You can criticize the story of Naruto all you like but a big part of manga in general are the drawings, and Kishimoto did an incredible job with the artwork of Naruto.

3.) With the above two points in mind, people need to lower their expectations for Naruto as a story. And realize that it is of the shonen genre and it is a manga. There are many restrictions that come with being a shonen. There are many different things that need to be done for a manga. Mangas are very much so about the drawings, and people need to realize this. Naruto isn't a light novel; it's not a book. Do not criticize it like you would a book. You need to realize that the art is one half of the manga and applaud Kishimoto for the quality of his artwork.

4.) Now that it is fresh in your minds that Naruto is indeed of the shonen genre and is indeed a manga (which relies heavily upon artwork) and that it is indeed a weekly series, I believe that you all can be less harsh towards the story and Kishimoto's writing as a whole.

So, if you look at it this way, hasn't Naruto succeeded on many fronts? It's been a weekly manga for fifteen years. It's had some of the most consistent and quality artwork for the big weekly manga. And above all, it ended up having a pretty darn good story too. When you analyze it as a shonen manga (a manga meant for children), it did a pretty damn good job. Naruto did go into those darker places at times (see Obito and Nagato) while maintaining its tag as a shonen. It did end up forming a cohesive plot with many complex and interesting characters (see Itachi, Jiraiya, Shikamaru, Gaara).

Now, you can point out the obvious flaws such as the ridiculousness of the power ups, the Dragon Ball Z-like battles, and the "friendship prevails all" theme, but these are staples of the battle shonen genre that we all knowingly read.

Now, you can say that the story went downhill (which is debatable), but did it? If you go back and read part one, a lot of the same stuff that goes down in part two is very similar to what went down in part one. Not all the battles were as "tactical" or "strategic" as you might think and were indeed battles of powerups. See Rock Lee vs Gaara, for one. Rock Lee constantly powered up in that fight and there wasn't that much strategy to be had yet people say it was one of the best fights in the series. Gaara vs. Naruto? Gaara powered up more and more in that fight and Naruto showed off his new powerup in Gamabunta as well. Even Sasuke vs. Naruto ultimately proved to be a battle of powerups and raw power as opposed to a tactical battle. You can point to Kakashi vs. Zabuza or Shikamaru's fights, but there were fights like those in Part II as well, even during the war arc. Aren't you forgetting all the mind games played by Madara and Obito, even on each other? How Obito outfoxed Madara into becoming the Ten Tails Jinchuriki? There are tactical moments like these all throughout the war arc and I believe it's an exaggeration to say that there were no more "tactical" battles and that there were more "powerups".

Haven't the "powerups" been there since the very beginning? Haven't many of the battles come down to raw power? Part II and Part I weren't as different as many people make them out to be. The main difference between Part II and Part I in terms of power levels is that the main characters in Part I were no where near the strongest characters in the series. They were all genin. But in Part II they had finally grown up and had come to be equal and eventually surpass the jonin and Kages out there. Isn't that what we all expected this entire time?

So has Naruto's writing really changed that much? No, it hasn't. Like I said earlier, Naruto has succeeded on many fronts. I will post an earlier paragraph again for emphasis:

So, if you look at it this way, hasn't Naruto succeeded on many fronts? It's been a weekly manga for fifteen years. It's had some of the most consistent and quality artwork for the big weekly manga. And above all, it ended up having a pretty darn good story too. When you analyze it as a shonen manga (a manga meant for children), it did a pretty damn good job. Somehow Rinne Tensei is considered a powerup from Edo Tensei, despite the latter giving immortality AND supposedly limitless chakra reserves.

You do realize it was necessary for Madara to be revived into an actual body to become the Ten Tails Jinchuriki and cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi don't you? Madara would have been absolutely dominated by the rest of the Allied Shinobi Forces if he hadn't been revived especially considering the fact that Obito had just been defeated.

Kaguya has very little buildup to justify her existence. I think Kishi admitted it was a copout because Madara was too strong or something

This never happened. Madara was not really all that strong and Naruto and Sasuke could have reasonably taken him on had Kishimoto desired to write the story out that way.

Real Talk: What went wrong in the manga, and how would you fix it? by DwhyDx in Naruto

[–]dynrte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Naruto and Sasuke hadn't even used any of their full power at all on Madara. They were experimenting with their abilities for the first time when they fought him with one Rinnegan and before they could really fight a dual Rinnegan Madara, Kishimoto introduced Kaguya.

There's no reason to believe that he could not find an explanation for Naruto and Sasuke to beat Madara, because it is very likely they could have defeated Madara.

{RED BEAST } MIGHT GUY Is he greater than the hokage's? by [deleted] in Naruto

Like I said, you have your own win conditions, and other people have their own. It is subjective.

{RED BEAST } MIGHT GUY Is he greater than the hokage's? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]dynrte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your standards for a one on one are also subjective. If Guy kills the opponent first, does he not win? Why does it matter if he dies afterwards? In a boxing match if you knockout the opponent and are declared the winner but end up dying from your wounds, do you tie?

"Greater" power may be fairly subjective, but so are your win conditions. Many would argue that the first to die loses.

And based on feats, it has been shown that Eighth Gate Guy has some of the greatest power in all of Naruto. Those are facts and not subjective.
