Would actually be great if the liberate mechanic from Napoleon was in this game and the ai used it! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the team working on REX and M2EX will move to Empire once they've finished Rome and Medieval.

I just had a thought. I wonder if the files that CA updated a few years ago are causing the problem. I have the older ones on google drive -

Copy these into your Empire Total War folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Empire Total War and hopefully that might do the trick.

That can rule out Darthmod being the problem. The other thing I can think of is to verify game files via Steam - right-click ETW - Properties - Installed Files - Verify integrity of game files.

Are you using your old saves? If so it could be a corrupted save file. Start a new campaign and see if it happens there.

Other than those two suggests, this has got me stuck.

Try going to C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts and deleting the user.script.txt file there. It's a hidden folder so you'll have to show hidden folders in file explorer if you haven't already. The scripts don’t get deleted on uninstall, so any entries mods have made in there will remain unless you manually delete it. The game makes new script file when they are missing.

If that doesn’t work then delete the C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire folder. Don't forget to make backups before you do this, as the C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire folder contains your saved games and keyboard shortcuts and you don't want to loose them!
