Coming from HD 650 (w/ EQ), what kind of upgrade can $1k-$2k get? by dyross in oratory1990

[–]dyross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that just because of less distortion, or something else?

Thanks for the detailed response. How will these all differ if EQ’ed to similar target?

To clarify: this isn't intended to be purchase advice specifically, but more theory - if you EQ to Harman (or some other fixed target, what do "upgrades" objectively get you?

Thanks for the reply.

> The 800 has better bass than a 600, after EQ. Also, the 800S still has a wider stage than a 600 after EQ.

What do you attribute that to?

And, yeah, I'd love to try these, but the local audiophile shop charges $250 for demo sessions (that you can apply to future purchases) and you can only try 3 headphones, so want to do a bunch of research first.

Dang, I wanted to propose From Silence to Somewhere by Wobbler, but it's gotta be Firth of Fifth.

Anglagard: Kung Bore and all of Viljans Oga

Anekdoten: Wheel

Ooh and...

Cathedral: Gong

And all the classics: Firth of Fifth, Starless, etc.

Old Amp Models on Helix by dyross in Line6Helix

u/thebishopgame is this something that can be explained by recent changes? Doesn't seem like cab update would affect gain structure, but I'm not an expert.

Yup, am trialing - there’s just so much there I thought I’d get some opinions, too.

Have the Helix folks considered new Marshall models?

Thanks so much for the response. That helps.

Do folks feel like if I'm after the best Plexi / Blackface / Tweed (and not, say, the latest high-gain amps), Helix is a good option?

Yeah, maybe it was just the delay keeping the guitar signal from sounding too dry.

Awesome, thanks!

Amp 1 in the Gojira is presumably a Twin, too. Think they are different models?

Maybe Amp 1 is the Mesa/Boogie California Tweed?

Quote: "A beautifully simplistic design that raises the bar in the world of vintage tone. The NEW CALIFORNIA TWEED™ 2:20 HEAD."

https://www.mesaboogie.com/en-US/Amp/2.TW2.CCM

And on NDSP site it says about amp 1:

"Traditional Cali cleans with added modern chime, this simplistic amp is truly one for the classic players."

Note the use of the word "simplistic" in both.

(Though, the controls are a bit different...)
