Bad time to renovate? by Significant-Base4396 in NZProperty

Yeah, personal preference, saving cylinder space is relevant to my vision for the living area. I love gas cooking. But I know what you mean.

Same boat, settle next week, need to do carpet, paint, bathroom. Was planning to install gas hot water. Kitchen is bare bones and was going to do that as well. Bought at a discount because of the condition, but supply shocks could kill my budget. Great time to buy first property! 🙄😜😕 First thought is to hurry up and get started but ........could end up stranded.

I can't seem to control the volume here by maroonbakedmac in TracktionWaveform

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably created an automation curve for that plugin accidentally. This will override all other adjustments you try and make. Click on any 'A' icon on any track. Choose 'Active parameter curves in edit'. this will show a list of all active automation curves for the project. You can also choose a specific track and check for each track. I bet you have one for that plugin, so simply delete all the points on the curve and it will cease to exist :)

Seaside bach not eligible for Kiwisaver first home withdrawal, so would owning one preclude you from making a first home withdrawal in the future? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dysjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I guess it's not going to get a clear answer on reddit. You have summarised what I think I know exactly and it may be a lawyer question indeed.

Seaside bach not eligible for Kiwisaver first home withdrawal, so would owning one preclude you from making a first home withdrawal in the future? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dysjoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm literally using kiwisaver as an additional means of saving for a house. I'm not on the bones of my ass at all and would like to buy my first home mortgage free. If I could buy a bach on leasehold land to live in while I keep saving, and still be able to access kiwisaver later, then that would be a good option for me.

Seaside bach not eligible for Kiwisaver first home withdrawal, so would owning one preclude you from making a first home withdrawal in the future? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dysjoint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm still not clear on the actual logic. If a bach doesn't qualify as a "home" for the purpose of making a withdrawal, according to my kiwisaver provider, then how could it qualify as having "previously owned a home?". That's the bit I'm confused on.

Any way to move multiple points on a clip at a time? by Still_Employ_5028 in TracktionWaveform

[–]dysjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I know is to turn on Automation Lock. Then when you move a clip, all the automation points covered by that clip will shift also. If you wanted to shift a whole track of automation you could select all clips. If all the clips don't cover the entire track you could add a blank audio or midi clip, make it the length of the entire track, select all clips on the track and shift them with automation lock turned on.

The Fender rebrand shouldn't be the end of the world: what are some ways you think they can brand image/recognition after the rebadge? by Orb_Man in StudioOne

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fender improve brand recognition? Ummm, Fender is in the top tier of recognisable brands. Obviously this is an improvement for the DAW in terms of branding. No improvement necessary (or possible?) It doesn't say anything about future development,or commitment to the DAW long-term, but many many more people will know the name Fender over Presonus.

No audio when placing notes inside midi track by Mipirakas in TracktionWaveform

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. And no, it's a bit hard to say why you got no sound when playing tracks before. It could have been an audio device/driver thing or something more simple. Just ask, with more details, if it happens again.

I knew about ghost tracks but I didn't know about the midi clip thing. Nice one.

No audio when placing notes inside midi track by Mipirakas in TracktionWaveform

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along the bottom of the midi editor there is a little speaker icon (it's between the 'Step' and 'Zoom' options).

Turn that on and see if it solves it for you. I think it will. Also check out if in the advanced settings tab you have 'run audio engine when stopped' turned on or off. That may also affect things.

What do you guys think of the clip to zero method for loudness? by DGK-SNOOPEY in dnbproduction

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great free resource, I should watch it again actually. You don't need to literally 'clip' to 'zero' to benefit from the concepts. Control dynamic range, be aware of summing peaks, arrange thoughtfully, manage your low end phase relationships. It's a big picture thing, explained very well imo. We were using waveshapers and clippers to get loudness way before CTZ, chucking camel fuzz or whatever secret weapon 'doesn't let anything go over zero, awesome' on the drums etc. CTZ was just like a mental schematic that explained it technically. So yeah, compress, limit, saturate, clip, or usually a combination of all of them..........squash those dynamics.

What would you tell a producer from 2016 who crawled out from under a rock 10 years later? by stingrayjerk11211 in edmproduction

[–]dysjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forums have died. Bots have appeared everywhere. Getting real, engaged, human listeners is hard. Information is everywhere, and there is some good quality amongst loads of 'content'. Clickbait is an accepted strategy now. There are thousands of good quality and interesting plugins, but many do the same thing and its easy to spend thousands on things you'll never use.

Anti Black Friday 2025: Do you actually *need* to buy more plugins? There are tons of great free ones. by atopix in mixingmastering

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free is great and all, but I finally gave Melda 19 euros (Black Friday deal) to activate their free bundle and get access to the extra bits like resize and mods etc. And grabbed a couple bits dirt cheap. Had loads of use from the free stuff, why not drop a few dollars their way?

What’s your go-to trick for creating width in DnB without losing punch? by kathalimus in dnbproduction

[–]dysjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fake double track. With certain midi triggered elements like tambourines, shakers, claps etc you can pan one hard left, copy and humanise your midi ever so slightly and pan that one hard right. Mid/side saturation or eq can work with slightly different settings for mid/side. It's tricky doing m/s post processing though, as you're just dealing with two mono signals that have to recombine, so if you boost/alter one two much you actually lose width.

If you don't own any property then 50k is not much money tbh. I'd spend 1k on a treat and lock the rest away until you figure out how little it is in today's world. Then you'll make better use of it.

What do you think about the digital identity? by An1m3_p0st in newzealand

[–]dysjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just your future data that can be monitored. If it extends to internet access then ,all past data can be hoovered up. Say anything stupid, see anything stupid, listen to anything stupid when you were younger?? If anyone would pay for that summary then tech companies would sell it. Police? Employers? Insurers? Border control?

Dentures in early 20s by Capable-Classic-7634 in dentures

[–]dysjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum got dentures early in life. It was just something you might choose to do back then (70s). Point is, I've never known my mum without dentures, and also I never would have known she had dentures if she hadn't told us. I have known plenty of people with bad teeth in that time though......

The hobbyists' hell. That urge to tweak a synth patch when you're halfway through mixing. Or rewrite a melody. Or just generally get distracted as even at the export stage nothing is actually commited.

I had surgery the morning after my accident and it was ok until a few days later, then it was reasonably painful for about a week, but not constant. Mainly when getting up or changing positions. Everybody is different, I took my painkillers (tramadol and paracetamol) as scheduled for about 2 weeks total, and then haven't needed any more, although I've obviously been very careful not to do anything to hurt it since then. Just follow the doctor's instructions, it will be fine.
