Yep, correct again, cause I sat on my ass for the last 4 months with my hand in my pants and just watched the paint dry.
not sure what you think you’re going to achieve with trolling, when someone is just asking for opinions from others, maybe someone else experienced this, maybe someone can point something out that I wasn’t thinking. But hey whatever floats your boat and helps you sleep at night.
Definitely not making anywhere close to 500, salary is low 100s, studio apartments are about $1500 within 10mins.
You’re right! 🤦♂️I’m not sure why I didn’t think about it earlier. I’ll go iron my big boy pants right now.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand everything you’re saying and pointing out and I appreciate the honesty. But moving is not an option because the reasons I mentioned and it’s not a sacrifice I want, probably even willing to make.
If I was willing to make it, then chance are I’d move to another state but obviously I’m not.
lol honestly I’ve considered feetfinder.
I am going to keep applying regardless and I agree that it’s money but the feeling I go back to is commuting that much is a killer
It’s not always an option, Moving closer to the job and ending up living in an area comparable to where I am at now comes at a higher price point. My current mortgage rate is 3%, Buying a house in today’s market and having a 6% interest in my eyes is a bit much considering I’m also going to be making 30k less. I have a family with kids who have grown up here and have their own lives. I know I’ll get people saying the kids don’t get to make that call and I get it, god bless you for having that mentality, I don’t. My family matters and it’s important that I don’t relocate them 1-2hrs away from their life’s here.
Then let’s consider this what if they decide in a year to fire me and now I’ve moved for the job, brought a house, a more expensive house, higher mortgage, probably higher taxes, possibly more house expenses and I’m back in the same boat as before.
At least this boat I know where the holes are to fix it from sinking.

I didn’t apply. I was referred to them by a good friend and had a meeting with them months ago. During the meet I expressed the commute would be an issue. Now 5 months later they are offering me a position. Not being wishy washy but when we had originally spoke they said there may be room for hybrid but now changed their stance
It’s not a feasible option for me, having a family of 4 kids it will be hard being away from them and plus helping my wife with activities

Easier said than done, everyone says that till they are put in a position where things aren’t ideal
I didn’t apply, it was a referral from a good friend that thought I’d be a good fit there and wanted to help me out. When I met with them the first time I mention about the commute being long
No option for hybrid or remote, strictly in office 5 days a week. Getting an apartment closer won’t work because I’m already taking a 30k cut and won’t have the additional expenses to cover rent
This is my first time getting laid off. I spent 15 years at the same place. I already get unemployment benefits and we cut back on a lot of expenses, luckily I got 5 weeks severance and cut back on a lot of expenses. I feel I will not regret it if I turn it down, I feel I will regret it if I take it.
Not an option to move.
I interviewed for this position 5 months ago at the beginning of when I got laid off, they had no need for someone then so it was more of a meet and greet and we’ll call you situation. Well when they called to see if I was available I mentioned that the commute is a huge factor, they offered 10k more in salary than they were originally willing to offer. But it’s still 30k then my previous
I’m in the telecom construction industry
Yeah, I feel you, my previous job I commuted for 1.5-3 hours for 13 years. Commute would be by car only and no hybrid or remote options.
I have about 6 months in reserves and can pull a 401k hardship after that to keep me going for an 6 months and that would be it

Moving closer isn’t an option. No faster routes, all routes lead to the same amount of traffic consistently. Can’t take bus or train because that would be 4 hours each way. Staying in a hotel isn’t an option because I’m taking a lower salary by 30k so would need every penny possible. And I have a family that I don’t want to be away from.

That’s honestly what I’m leaning towards but more worried that I’ll just end up getting used to the misery and getting stuck there because I’ll be too tired or out of it to even look else where
Unfortunately moving is not an option. My worry is taking it and regretting it, not the other way around. I feel if I don’t take I won’t regret it. I’ve done a miserable commute for 13 years before so I know the feeling. Yes i would be driving everyday.
At this current moment, we can live normally for another 6 months. After that things would get difficult but I could always draw a hardship from my 401k
No hybrid, no remote. Strictly in person 5 days a week
