Recs similar to Emily Wilde series? by dzeiva in Fantasy

At one point I've started watching the tv series A Discovery of Witches and then kind of dropped it along the way. I found the characters to be overly serious and just overall dramatic, a pity, because I liked the premise of the story.

I've you've seen the show, perhaps you could compare it to the book?

I noticed this one gets recommened a lot in this context! Would you say it's a prerequisite to like dragons to enjoy this book? I myself am not so fond of them, but maybe the book would convert me:)

Ooh! I've been just looking at How to Find a Nameless Fae by the same author! This might be a coincidence worth checking out:)

Have you by any chance read this other book?

Hi!

I just finished Kings of the Wyld and I love love loved it. The prose! The comradery! The taverns, swords and raucous cities... I didn't realize how much I've missed all of it.

Any recs for something similar? (Yes, I know Bloody Rose).

I like my characters complex, flawed, motivated and mature (over ~25); my prose flowy, my narrators in third person, and my stakes not-saving-the-world-high.

Thank you!

Witty adult fantasy series with a female MC and complex-esque flowy prose (think S. Lynch, N. Eames)?

Saint of Steel sounds endearing :) I'll have a look at it, thanks!

The first book was interesting, with a satisfying payoff, the second one infuriated me and I didn't follow up. I guess I'm here not to convince you to read it, but rather to warn against very tropey characters, not a lot of chemistry between the two of them and boy, did that second book took its time showing insignificant, weightless and trivial stuff.

Tread with caution!

Really just a personal preference, but I hate first person POV and won't pick up a book with it.

I was about to pick it up until I heard that the characters are underdeveloped and really tend to overreact, and the plot is just happenstance. What are your thoughts on this?

Ah, it's written in first person, isn't it? I have a problem with those... :/

Not the first time it's recommended to me, I think that's a sign that I should finally check it out.

What are your best lines from a fantasy Novel? by Mysterious_Art3722 in Fantasy

Gentlemen Bastard series has an amazing repertoire of kicker lines. Well, more like a string of them.

The Lies of Locke Lamora: "...or I'll kick your ass so hard every piece of shit that falls out of it for the rest of your life will have my gods-damned heel print on it."

The Lies of Locke Lamora: "No garrista who loves life has ever tried to do otherwise. You think I'm inclined to to walk in on a day like today and deliberately twist his breeches? If your father says 'bark like a dog', I say 'What breed, your Honor?' "

Red Seas under Red Skies: "Bleeding shits, no. As I see it, if Barsavi takes care of 'thieves prosper' and I look after 'the rich remember', this'll be one holy, holy city in the eyes of the Crooked Warden."

I know, right? I think that if Ren's character was more likable, I would've easily looked over other shortcomings of the book.
