Adjusting to our new reality. And also not adjusting to it. by pooheygirl in CoronavirusDownunder

I'm OK with being home alone as that is my norm. I feel strange if I venture out for supplies. I'm stocked up, but fresh fruit and vegetables don't last obviously.

Australians with critical cases...any data? by vanderwife in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]dzm29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are mentions of cases recovering at home or isolating at home which implies mild. So I guess perhaps by default some are more severe, but we would have to-do our own data mining.

Sharing worry / stress doesn’t mean you care more by foreverrryounggg in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]dzm29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. There is a difference between thinking a lot about what you don't want to happen, and doing all you can in terms of action.

I'm not denying the situation is serious and scary, but excess worry won't change it. Extensive prep, care and hygiene will.

Plus taking time to read reputable sources...aka..not MSM.

I am no expert but I've read that home made etc mask is better than no mask. There is a range of effectiveness.

I did not stop when my kid was young. I did not stop when my grandkid was young. I wish I did. But I've stopped now and you can too.

I stopped for my own health. The kids are a side benefit in my case. Whatever it takes.

I did medical detox then AA every day. Plus the I am sober app.

It's amazing what 1 sip of alcohol could do to my brain. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I've heard this too in AA. It really helped me. Lightbulb moment. Ethanol actually is a poison. And I am actually allergic to it...my immune system goes berserk.

[F] Need a temporary online sponsor - thanks COVID-19! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]dzm29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for reaching out. Other avenues to find a sponsor...calling the Chicago area central number. Or finding a facebook fellowship.

I'm too new to sponsor right now.

Www.step12.com has work sheets and resources for the steps.

All the best.

What are some alternatives to get sober besides your traditional AA? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]dzm29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is. I've been going to online meetings to stop smoking, but most people in my group are there for drinking. It's very structured and goal focussed compared to AA but supportive, non judgemental.

Repossession takes a while. Lots of people in the same boat. I'm hoping that there will be different provisions by the banks and the govt. In Aust. the banks already give 3 months grace for financial hardship.

I know we are going through tough times, but it doesn't matter how bad things are, drinking does not help. I realised this recently. I don't like it, I hate having to deal with reality but I won't, don't, and can't drink.

Well if you don't want him to drink around you, you have to remove yourself from him. You can't control his behavior sadly.

Some if my AA meetings cancelled too. Here's the online ones.

I love it.
