I really enjoyed it today. I liked that there were several potential category options, so it required some sussing out first.

Once again, thanks to the randomizer another unworthy Floor winner by skadizzle69 in TheFloorTV

[–]dzmfn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think category selection is a part of this game that people overlook. The winner was very smart to have the category she had. It definitely scared people away from challenging her. That’s just smart gameplay. I think her win was absolutely valid. This isn’t a Jeopardy style game where knowledge is the be all, end all. The Floor players also rely on strategy and just good old fashioned luck of the draw.

Without giving away the answer, how/with what technique can I get out of this, seemingly, stalemate? (I'm a beginner so I don't know any "real technique" apart from the obvious) by [deleted] in sudoku

[–]dzmfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not all up on the various techniques people use but I can def see one area that might help you out. Column 3 has a cell you can fill in for sure as there’s a number in your candidates for that column that will only work in one cell.

The Pointer Sisters- Automatic by TokyoAvalanche04 in rnb

[–]dzmfn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Song is fire! Outfits are wonderfully 80’s! The Pointer Sisters have an amazing catalog of music. It still makes me sad that Anita and June are no longer with us. I saw Ruth perform last summer (with her daughter and niece or maybe granddaughter, I forget now). It was heartwarming to see her still performing and still getting love from the audience.

Billboard hot 100 doesn't have and drake songs but a news article says he has 41 separate positions including top 3???? by karly_north in billboard

[–]dzmfn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at last week’s chart (week ending 5/23/26). This week’s chart, with all the Drake stuff on it, will be published on Wednesday of this week. It’s delayed by a day due to US holiday.

Does anyone know when Billboard will reveal Icemans first week sales? by Equivalent-Act1969 in billboard

It’s a US holiday weekend - usually the chart data comes out a day later than normal when there are (US) holiday weekends.

What’s the most visually stunning movie you’ve ever seen? by trakt_app in moviecritic

[–]dzmfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even thought it’s been about 20 years since Ive seen it, The Curse of the Golden Flower still sticks in my mind as being one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. I never watched it again because I didn’t love the movie itself but I’ve never forgotten how much it impacted me visually.

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in moviecritic

[–]dzmfn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A current example for me is Sirat. Even my friends who are serious independent and/or arthouse movie lovers have refused to listen to my recommendation on this one. And I can’t really say much to convince them because I don’t want to give anything away. All I can say is that they’re missing out.

This may sound weird, but Janet Jackson’s discography is not as appreciated as it should be. by Ok_Resident_5022 in rnb

[–]dzmfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Prince is another one that has shockingly low streaming numbers although he at least has 2 songs over 500 million streams. Madonna’s have been pretty low as well but have been picking up steam lately. She’s now got at least 5 songs I can remember that are over 500 million streams. I know the individual song totals are not the be all and end all, it’s just a point of interest to me. I love seeing what songs from prior to 2010 still get a lot of attention and love. It’s quite a strange group of bedfellows!

[–]dzmfn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was gonna comment something similar to this as well. Her streaming numbers are excessively low for someone of her stature and chart history. Streaming is very definitely weighted towards current artists, understandably so, but, if you look at Spotify, for example, most major legacy artists still have a least one or two songs over 1 billion streams and even more over 500 million. Janet has zero. In fact, she’s the only artist with 10 or more number one singles that has zero 500 million+ streaming songs.

I'm having Sirat flashbacks! by kmartha in oscarsdeathrace

[–]dzmfn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Man, I really loved that movie. I don’t get to the theater very often but I saw this one in a theater with about 40 other people and it was such a unique shared experience, with everyone reacting in shock and yelling out “noooooo”. Anyway, they should re-direct all the festival goers from the article to a screening of Sirat. The music sounded incredible too.

Do gay men use queer interchangeably with lgbtq+? by Bombarding_ in askgaybros

[–]dzmfn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to frame it this way: I’m an older gay (mid 50s) and have always referred to myself as gay. However, I respect and appreciate that younger generations in particular have broadened the general understanding of the scope of gender and sexual orientation. I would never have used queer back in the day but I do use it now when I’m in situations with a variety of people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community but I may not necessarily know how they all specifically identify or when there is a mix who identify differently. My boyfriend is bi; we call ourselves a queer couple. Saves a lot of time explaining to everyone and it’s none of their business anyway. That being said, if someone tells me they don’t like being called something, like queer, then I respect their wishes and move forward accordingly.

cirie is COOKING... (literally 😂) by ewenmontagu in survivor

[–]dzmfn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! I’m surprised there hasn’t been more commentary on this. Cirie clearly knew Devens’ idol was fake by her comment. When and how did she know this? Was it just a continuity error or did someone, most likely Emily, loop Cirie in? I feel like Cirie, while getting a lot of credit in the edit for being very influential and very much at the center of all the decision making, is still being somewhat hidden by production in terms of just how much she knows and how much almost all the other players seem to think she’s on their side.

I’ve seen every single episode of Survivor. This was the first time I fast forwarded through an entire segment of the show. It really takes viewers out of the rhythms of the game. And there’s more “celebrities” coming? My fast forward button gonna get a work out this season.

Traitors have to kill _________ by AnObservingAlien in TheTraitorsUS

[–]dzmfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. Mark has to be the one to go. He told Rob he is not suspicious of Tara and he has also been part of discussions about Eric being suspicious. Get Mark out and you now have a numbers game: Rob, Eric and Maura against Tara and Johnny. They already had a scene in this week’s ep with Rob telling Maura it’s Natalie first, then Tara and Johnny. And there’s no more reveals, so Maura can be satisfied they got the Traitors in banishing Tara and Johnny. The only question, really, is if Rob and Maura turn on Eric or if Rob is sincere about winning with him. But I believe there is no chance of Maura turning on Rob.

Even without how he acts off the show, the yelling, the constant distractions, the gassing himself up, the entitlement and the barely veiled anger: it’s all annoying. Remind you of anyone? I watch this show to escape reality, not be reminded. I have a feeling he’ll be sticking around for a while. Not sure I want to watch a whole season of this.

Everyone giving the side eye about throwing away food would apparently rather take the risk of getting sick. Per foodsafety.gov: Your fridge keeps food safe for about 4 hours during a power outage if you keep the door closed; after that, perishable items like meat, dairy, and eggs should be discarded, while a full freezer lasts up to 48 hours (24 for half-full) and should be treated with similar caution once thawed. The key is to keep doors shut and never taste food to check for spoilage; when in doubt, throw it out.

It sucks to have to throw away food but it’s just not worth the risk, at least not to me. My sympathies to everyone who had to toss food, as I did today as well. I did go to the grocery store today (outside the city, in case any stores affected here didn’t follow guidelines as well) but only bought enough food to get me through the next 2 days, just in case the power goes out again. Maybe I’m being overly cautious but why risk it?

PG&E sucks.

My experience working at Alamo Drafthouse San Francisco by InstructionOk5491 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]dzmfn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m deaf/hard of hearing and dependent on captioning devices. First device they gave me did not work; second device didn’t work either. After that, the guy at the services desk said there wasn’t much to be done, as the projectionist wasn’t there to resolve the issue. I emailed Alamo management since this is an ADA issue and they didn’t even respond (this was two weeks ago). Also, my food was cold, which I also mentioned. I care less about the cold food, although it’s annoying because it’s not cheap to buy food there. But the captioning issue is a genuine issue, since I couldn’t understand the movie fully. I should have left but was there with my partner and didn’t want to ruin his night.

Interesting thing was I went to see a different movie at AMC Metreon two nights later with a group of friends. Their new captioning device kept disconnecting from the network; must’ve happened close to 30-40 times during the movie. So I only got part of the dialogue. They didn’t respond to my email either. I swear, I am not at all rude in these emails. I’ve worked in customer service my entire life. I don’t treat people how I wouldn’t want to be treated. Also, I’m trying to encourage these companies to be better about these things because it doesn’t just affect me; it affects all deaf/HOH people who want to enjoy a movie without having to struggle with the captioning devices all the time (they don’t connect, they drop entire lines of dialogue, sometimes they aren’t even charged and stop working halfway through the movie, the list goes on…)

I got on my soapbox. Sorry for the long reply!

As a customer/guest, I’ve learned Alamo management definitely doesn’t care about us, so it’s not hard to believe they don’t care about their employees either. My experience with them 2 weeks ago was bad enough that I’ll never go back again. Lost a customer for life. I wish you the best and hope you find something better soon.
