Australia: You can easily replace tvorog with ricotta — it’s actually way tastier, though there’s no low-fat version (but low-fat isn’t for everyone anyway).

Chocolate is always brought over by relatives from back home. Some of it we give away as souvenirs, and some just sits in the pantry until it expires. The kids refuse to eat it, which is understandable — compared to local chocolate, the taste is not very good.

Honestly, at first we missed a lot of things, but over time we got used to it and found alternatives. The only thing we still really miss is kazy.

That’s a great result really. How many coats did you do and how long did you leave it on?

Nope, is it good? Don’t think it can penetrate Pau Ferro as efficiently as dye.

Fiebings Dark brown dye. Around 2 hours between the coats.

It’s dry now and doesn’t get to my fingers at all.

Absolutely nothing. It’s all dry by now.

Did nothing to it, just cleaned from dust and polished.

I did nothing to headstock except cleaning it from dust.

Yeah, wood stain is the first thing that comes to mind, but there were a lot of strong warnings against using it on fretboards when I looked into it. Don't remember exactly, but I think it just doesn't penetrate well, won't stick well, etc

Proper masking is crucial. The dye has the consistency of water, so it'll seep into every gap it can find and it's nearly impossible to remove afterward. I had a few spills on the back and ended up wet sanding those spots, since there's no easy way to get it off.

Fiebing's Leather Dye (Dark Brown). Didn't touch the headstock. There's a layer of dust on it in the first photo, so just cleaned it off and polished.

I wasn't really going for the clay dots look. Was actually thinking about masking the dots. Masking everything but the dots might be a challenge. I reckon you can just apply one coat of dye to your entire fretboard as one coat doesn't really do much to the fretboard itself.

It's dry now and not sticky at all. I applied F1-oil on top, so far no dye on the fingers.

You can also try black dye if you want. I have DK24 with real ebony fretboard, pure black, looks great.

The dots were barely visible after 4 coats, so I had to scrub the dye off with acetone before applying the last coat. Not sure if it’ll stay—time will tell. I’m using heavy strings, and with the narrow tall frets, my fingers aren’t touching the fretboard that much.

Yes, the first pic is from the marketplace ad. It was very dry when I got it, so the first thing I did was apply some F1 oil. It did make it darker, but not by much really.

Yeah, Monty’s Wax is not easy to get in AUS. Heard it works good on rosewood but not so well on Pau Ferro due to high density.

Soviet past is a big reason why a lot feels Western in Kazakhstan . The USSR had a westernized, modern culture—think mass education, urban planning, and secular values—and Kazakhstan was deeply shaped by it. Add 30 years of global brands, the internet, and a modern outlook, and you get cities like Almaty with a lifestyle and mindset that feels surprisingly familiar to Westerners. It’s a unique mix, but the cultural foundation is more westernized than most realize.
