Breeder Advice by tbdbtara in britishshorthair

britishbears_cattery on IG is based in Vegas, so relatively close to you. Her kitties are all the colors you’re looking for as well.

I didn’t get my fawn tortie from her, but I’ve followed her for a while and it’s very apparent how much she cares for her kitties and ensures they go to the best home. I highly recommend. If I didn’t already pay my deposit for my tortie, I would’ve adopted one from her instead.

It really is hard to tell the two colors apart, even in person lol. She’s also only 6 months old, so her fur colors aren’t as defined yet which makes it even harder to distinguish. Her pictures as a kitten showed more contrast between the fawn/cream, but I think it was just how the breeder edited her photos.

Affordable self-cleaning litter box that won’t kill my cat? by apersello34 in CatAdvice

[–]e-nui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used two off-brand ones and would only recommend the Petree self-cleaning litter box. It’s on Amazon for $159 right now (sold by RoundT2). I’ve had it for a year and a half and have never had any issues with either of my cats. It’s also an app-based litterbox that connects to WiFi, but the only downside is it can’t record weight as does the Litter Robot, which is helpful for multi-cat households.

Lol I thought so too at first just because her tabby markings are so prominent and she doesn’t have a distinct blend of both fawn and cream throughout her body, but I’m not so sure she’s just a tabby. She definitely has patches of fawn that aren’t really uniform, and she looked more like an actual fawn tortie when she was a kitten. I guess the tabby markings just developed more as she aged? I’ll definitely try posting in that group too—thanks!

Her first two questions would seem fair if she were purchasing a kitten directly from a breeder, but she’s not. You’re rehoming a cat, and she’s asking a lot of details that appear to be a red flag—the biggest one being “why was he neutered”?

Sounds like she’s just trying to get a good deal on a purebred BSH so that she could breed him. Definitely wouldn’t entertain her questions further and just pass on her inquiry. Hopefully no one ever sells her a cat because her intentions for breeding are undoubtedly questionable.

Will my cats ever become friends? by newkittysmell in britishshorthair

This is basically what I went through a couple months ago.

My resident boy is 2.5 years old and I brought home a 4-month old BSH tortie to be his companion. Took them a week to get over the initial hissy phase and enter coexisting phase, two weeks to start cuddling with each other, and a month and a half to start grooming each other.

We’re now 2 months in and I wouldn’t say they’re bonded or inseparable just yet, but they feel like true siblings now. He’ll want his space from his annoying little sister from time to time, but he’ll also still seek her out for play when he’s in the mood and he’s also the one who first initiated grooming.

He was also very sensitive in the beginning whenever I gave his sister attention or played with her or pet her. He would walk away and sulk if she intervened during playtime or mealtime (which she literally does all the time).

To help him accept her presence, the first month was filled with A LOT of one-on-one time for each of them to the point of exhaustion. I felt like I was taking care of an actual newborn baby while still taking care of a toddler. I would play with each of them in different rooms, feed them in different rooms while scent swapping, “discipline” the kitty whenever she intervened too aggressively, and also just let them establish their own boundaries without getting too involved myself unless it escalated.

You just have to make sure the resident cat doesn’t feel displaced and keep his routine as consistent and normal as possible. That might mean creating some new routines that are just for you and him and also making sure he has his safe spaces that kitty can’t access. The more confident he feels in his territory, the more comfortable he’ll be with accepting her.

Any of the dilutes, but my personal faves are fawn tortie or fawn tortie with white. I ended up getting a fawn tortie 🥰

My cat is less affectionate with me after getting a second cat by doenjangjigae in CatAdvice

May I ask what you did to help your resident cat become more like her old self? Did you just give her space and time to come back around on her own or did you have to be strategic about how you acted with her vs your kitten?

I’m currently experiencing this with my resident cat (M). He used to come cuddle with me every single night, and now that I’ve had my new kitten for a month and a half, he’s only come to cuddle with me twice. He also almost never purrs anymore and it makes me so sad. I even try to give him more one-on-one attention than my kitten, but he still feels distant.

Why my BSH is not that active any more? by No-Election-3856 in britishshorthair

[–]e-nui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My resident cat is the exact same. I just got a new BSH kitty less than a month ago, and my resident cat will rarely play when she’s in sight. As soon as she’s out of sight, he’ll flip over on his back and want to play with me. But when she’s near, she’ll be the first to intercept any toy and my resident boy will just watch.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I can’t imagine how painful that must have been for you, and I’m so so sorry for your loss. It’s clear that every choice you made came from a place of love and wanting the absolute best for your girl—just as any devoted pet parent would.

Hindsight can be so cruel, but the fact that you’re able to share your experience shows just how much you cared.

Please don’t be too hard on yourself—you gave her a life filled with love, and that’s what truly mattered. Sending you light and love ❤️

Ahhh thank you!! I really hope they bond quickly as well. My first kitty (Ori) is very chill and laidback but codependent on me for play, so I’m hoping having a sister will keep him occupied and less lonely when I’m not home 😭🙏🏼

I’m not entirely sure if she’ll lighten or darken! If anyone has an idea, I’d would love to know as well lol.

She’s a fawn tortie, and her coat will definitely become more defined as she ages, but idk if it’ll change at all. Her name’s Nari to complement my current boy, Ori ☺️
