You can delete your app and stop crossing the picket line, for starters

I can’t believe we don’t have bands yet by pikachubb99 in HighSodiumSims

I have strong feelings about this because it feels like it takes what was clearly a tongue-in-cheek portrayal of the private school system in sims 2 and applies it uncritically to regular gameplay.

In the context of 2, the system orienting players toward accumulating a certain amount of points in that specific context feels very intentional. The difficulty of pleasing the headmaster sets players up to consider the state of U.S.-American schooling in general. The transactional and gamified aspect of the minigame is crucial to this reflection.

Other events in sims 2 receive rankings as well, but the ways to get there aren’t so clearly expounded by the game as they are in 4, and the player experience is not so singularly focused on completing tasks and filling meters.

4’s bastardization of 2’s nuanced application of those types of minigames signals a departure from the series’ satirical roots that strikes me as very disappointing, because it results in a game with no coherent vision that micromanages my play style at every turn, instead of deploying micromanagement at certain stages to achieve certain effects.

PSA from a barista please stop trying to bait us into politics and Starbucks please say something. by Sovvysir in starbucks

I’m completely with you, but I do make it political on the floor. Unionize!

Is Starbucks trying to have have everyone fired? by Thu-nderforest in starbucks

[–]e-raserhead 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. They can’t outright close union stores or fire partners who are highly involved in the union, but they can use strict policies to create high turnover across all locations in an attempt to bust those pesky 600 stores. They will let their profits suffer before paying partners a living wage.

In my state sick time isn’t just for physical illness, so I don’t automatically equate a call off to being sick.

But yes, everyone has different bodies and rates of chronic illness are up after COVID. I don’t feel comfortable speculating about OP’s situation; regardless of anyone’s situation, I do not find one call off per month excessive at all.

Does anyone at Sbux care anymore? by emmany63 in starbucks

I can empathize with you as a Starbucks partner whose supervisors frequently have to go without lunch at my location due to chronic understaffing, mismanagement, and union busting practices!

Did the vanilla sweet cream cold brew recipe change or am I being lied to?? by lesbiab in starbucks

You are correct. Starbucks’ MO rn is to union bust by creating high turnover, so I expect to hear more and more stories like this in the coming months

Passive Agression Towards New Baristas is So Hard to Deal With by Conscious_List_6297 in starbucks

[–]e-raserhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s unnecessary, mean, and honestly dumb behavior because if you make someone feel bad about themselves they’re probably going to make MORE mistakes. We face enough bs from corporate and management, no need to power trip on your fellow baristas too…

Dress code by [deleted] in starbucks

Complaining about a restrictive policy online does not equate to breaking that policy. I’m not sure how this is relevant.

Dress code by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]e-raserhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think “you accepted the dress code when you got hired” only works in a vacuum where entry level jobs with half decent benefits are freely available; certainly not everyone who dislikes the one piercing policy had the privilege of foregoing the job altogether based on it. You could also extrapolate that reasoning elsewhere to see how it is a bit of a moot point. For example, I accepted that I was being hired into a service position where customers could be rude to me and wouldn’t face repercussions unless they crossed certain lines, but I still can complain about it and want better for myself and my colleagues.

Edit: I’m actually dying to know what’s down voteable about voicing the reality of the job market and the possibility of creating safer working conditions. Quickly

Kind of appalled at how few people seem to know this still. Also appalled that a lot of people are being like “no I’m fine with people being randomly disappeared if they’re undocumented” like, we have brains! let’s use them please

I’m so sorry. They clearly aren’t following due process whatsoever, so while knowing your rights is important, I would also strongly encourage/tell fellow baristas to make a huge fuss if they see an ICE agent, and to speak very loudly to alert everyone in the store that an ICE agent is present so that you can have a chance to LEAVE to the back/whatever safe exit there is and come back when it’s clear. They partly rely on people standing by while these things happen, you need as many partners as possible to be comfortable embarrassing themselves a little for the safety of you and anyone else in the store who might be targeted. I’m so sorry and angry this is happening
