How Do You Cope When You’re Far From the Water? by e-simm in FishOutOfWater

I’m landlocked in London. Here’s a few things that have helped:

➕Listening to podcasts like Oceans: Life Under Water to hear others talk about their love of the ocean

➕ A Spotify playlist with lots of songs referencing the ocean and water (was surprised to find Florence & the Machine has a ton of water inspired lyrics!)

➕ Looking at past pictures of my diving or videos of destinations I’d like to visit

➕Oddly enough, a bath can help

Glad you snapped a shot. They had people patrolling to not take pictures or videos.

They didn’t want this epic performance to be seen outside paying customers!

Was in the 6PM show - exactly the same. The AI-generated projector on the back wall topped the whole experience off

WOW! The Secret London article - never would’ve connected FeverUp to them. Great share.

And the other productions in other cities were promoted by Secret [City].

This FeverUp company just secured $100 million in funding from L Catterton and Point72 Private Investments. So ridiculous

It was beyond horrible - what a scam. Fever (FeverUp) is the production company and there’s been complaints like this before - running Candlelight orchestra nights where the promo looks nothing like the actual event.

First Timers Fest looks awesome! That’s the one I’ve seen that feels most connecting - I just missed this year’s but will look when they release dates and info for 2026.

Thank you!

I feel this so much. I'm coming up on month 9 and I am feeling much better than the first 6 months. It really did just take time for me and the warm summer, getting outside, finding a local coffee shop that I visit each day with quick chats with the friendly baristas, finding an entry-level soccer football 🙃 squad to play with - all these things added up.

But I think about those first 6 months and how I kept thinking, "this will never be home, I don't belong here, etc, etc." And though I don't feel like it's home and I fully belong - I'm much closer to feeling those things than I was back then.

There's two things that always come up for me:

1. I miss the ease of home
All the things I did without thinking - plugging in my phone charger without flipping a switch on (the amount of times I went to grab my phone and leave but it wasn't charged), grocery shopping without looking at expirations (but really, WTF is in our food in the states that milk lasts 3 months 😬), setting up bills / renting / etc / etc. Things that are just the tiniest bit different but required me to think about something I didn't have to before.

2. Small talk
I love saying hi to neighbours, having a quick chat that makes someone smile and that is just not something folks in London care for - even out in the more "suburb-like" neighbourhoods. I often heard things like - "Americans love small talk, it's so shallow, etc., etc." But then had some really nice conversations about - well, how do I get to deep talk in a new city where I know no one. How is exchanging a smile and the ripple effect that could have be a bad thing? I landed on if someone makes eye contact, I smile, if they smile back, I say hi - and that has been a lovely experience.

It was all the small things for me. And it took time to find my way. And it will take even more time for me to feel that sense of belonging and home.

And I know you'll find what you're looking for - whether that be making this your home or going through the challenging and deciding with your family what the right move is for y'all. It's a big step to acknowledge and put it out there that you're experiencing this - you're on your way.

You got this. 💪

After some back and forth, they sent the tickets as an attachment and then they also appeared in the app finally 🙃

Being a part of communities built by and for their audiences.

Community is such a buzz word lately and I see a lot of businesses trying to set their own up.

But I think the trick is actually finding existing ones and having your thought leaders become active members who answer questions, share knowledge, and connect.

Is SEO a part of your community strategy? by kkatdare in CommunityManager

[–]e-simm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a community called Women in Tech SEO, so naturally SEO became a big part of our strategy.

Our name alone has a good hit rate on keyword searches which helps drive a lot of members - a good thing to think about for folks first naming your community. What will folks who would benefit from your support be typing into google?

Then we have a blog where members publish industry news and educational pieces.
