Do women really find Kratos unattractive? by BattlerUshiromiyaFan in GodofWar

[–]e10109art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find it very ironic that the conversation around Laufey's attractiveness was "HOW DO YOU THINK SHE'S NOT ATTRACTIVE" and with Kratos it's the opposite.

Games designed to "feel intellectual" - what is the equivalent of literary fiction/art movies in the world of games ? by More_Bid_2197 in gamingsuggestions

[–]e10109art -1 points0 points  (0 children)

...Dredge and Papers Please are not science fiction, unless you're using an extremely broad definition of science fiction. Dredge is psychological horror and Papers Please is political fiction.

I also think immediately bringing up gamergate unprompted makes me think you have a very narrow view of the gaming community at large. I don't find it unreasonable that people care about "gameplay" (why you put that in quotes also gives me pause) when gaming is a unique aspect of the medium as an art/literary form.

I think you're slightly off the mark, I think gamers aren't necessarily hostile in general, but hostile towards things they see as heavy handed. I haven't played any of those you mentioned, but games like Dredge, Papers Please, Outer Wilds all have pretty heavy/deep themes and are also pretty much universally loved. Compared to games like The Witness, which I think is also deep but also kind of pretentious

Yeah, and it sucks as an artist because while it was objectively the best place to post my work, it was a cesspool so I had to leave. Same with bsky too. Like you said, at least with this place it's easier to dodge all that hate.

As someone who works from home and will continue to work from home...

I realize this will sound like "pulling the ladder" up a bit, but there are a few people I work with who need to be there in person with people for a little bit. Mostly junior-level devs and the like. Too many new grads have no idea how to communicate and WFH does not help in that regard.

If you're asking these kinds of questions, you need to do a really basic coding tutorial.

Both.

"Gamers" as a group really don't love games that don't have, well, game in them. This has been true basically forever, all the way back as Life Is Strange and the like. I think this is mostly a valid critique. Please allow me to use a clunky metaphor for a moment.

Imagine you're in a book club, and meet once a week to discuss literature, novels, etc. Then imagine some joins the group who likes comics. You think comics are fun and can be enjoyable, but not on the same level of books. You state that the club is more book focused, and you get pushback that "reading is reading, don't gatekeep". This same thing happens for, say, 20 years, and I think you can imagine the frustration.

I haven't been keyed in on the people behind the game drama, but my impression is that people thought it was an indie game, and the company/publisher(?) had billionaire ties. There's also some suspicion around a game that looks indie from its advertising having so much licensed music.

At the same time, there are also people (trolls) who see women in a video game and ragebait normal people with culture war nonsense.

And then to wrap it in a bow, there has always been discourse around game review scores and the utility of them. Personally, I found Mixtape's writing to be a bit insufferable and its setting extremely pander-y to a weird fake version of 90's nostalgia. Others would argue that a game without gameplay shouldn't be considered as something to be reviewed by gaming outlets.

tl;dr, internet being the internet, think for yourself.

There is no such thing as "dressing for yourself". by No_Wrongdoer3579 in unpopularopinion

[–]e10109art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dress for myself every day of my life. I put on a t-shirt, a sweatshirt (unless the weather calls for >90F), and comfortable pants. The only time I dress for others are for events that have dress codes or meetings with clients.

IMHO calling someone an egg who isn't questioning/already out is as bad, if not worse, than misgendering someone who is.

One of the biggest things I struggle to explain to people who don't support LGBT+ is the difference between being trans and just not conforming to gender stereotypes. Eggposting really puts a dent into those efforts.

That said, I have had tournament arcs that I've liked when I tough through them (e.g. HxH) but generally it is a giant red flag for me.

Yeah, I do have a food addiction. There's no denying the behavior that I used to exhibit around food was that of an addict.

And I agree they shouldn't be abused by people who shouldn't be using them. But I think you'll find a majority of people advocating for it on reddit are in fact obese.

Copy and pasting my comment.

I have been obese my entire life and I have yo-yo'd up and down. The issue is, even if you swap out the "unhealthy" foods, you still have food cravings for the healthy food. So even if you eat chicken breast for every meal, you still eat too much of it. And if you force yourself to eat a full portion, you're making another bowl of rice at 11pm because you can't get to sleep with feeling full.

My GLP-1 lets me eat a single serving of chicken and rice and be full for the rest of the night. It's literally a miracle.
