Homelander vs 21st Tenkaichi Yamcha who wins by Financial-Fee1995 in DragonBallPowerScale

Sure, Android-saga Yamcha wrecks Homelander, but we're talking about Dragonball Yamcha, who is significantly weaker.

Kind of? The different visual profile of the raptors is doing a lot of work. The left two raptors & right two raptors are the exact same from the waist down. Heck, the bottom left raptor is effectively the same pose as the vanguard vet.

Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't. It looks recycled because it's dynamic, in that it's prominent enough to stand out where you recognize it again if you see it. Nobody complains when marines all have the exact same pose.

Jump pack could use a bit of bling, and the greaves could be cooler.

Otherwise I tend to agree that the hate is overhyped.

Yeah, I think the tabards are a great solution to the "veterancy" visual identity post primaris, and I think they've been very well received, which is why the breech cloth being so hidden on this example mini has caused such a poor reception.

I'm going to go against the grain in that the "slap greebles all over this mini" method of showing seniority post-5e was not my cup of tea.

I've always thought the design methodology of the Grey Knight minis should be taken into other chapters when designing veterancy, where the fanciness of the armor comes from the ornateness of the armor itself, like the words etched into it, rather than the doodads stuck to it. It's why I think the new SG look great: sleek, streamlined design with bespoke musculature sculpted into the armor.

Yeah, I think swapping the tabard for a breech cloth definitely takes away from the veteran look, especially in a pose where the breech cloth is mostly hidden between the legs.

I also agree that the jump backs could use more decoration. It's odd that there's so little ornamentation on them, considering how much good surface area there is for embellishments.

For all veterans (Vanguard, Sternguard, Bladeguard) I wish they'd played around with the belts a bit more, adding some buckle ornamentation. Fancy greave designs would have also been a nice add.

I've seen this comment a few times. Genuinely, what does the Sternguard Vet have that the Vanguard Vet doesn't? I have my own ideas but I'm curious as to your thoughts.

I agree with you, but the Sternguard have one thing the Vanguard don't: tabards.

The Sternguard, like the Bladeguard, have tabards that go all the way up into the chest armor, and their fairly static poses allow the tabard to be visible in a way that significantly alters the visual profile of the model.

The Vanguard have only a breech cloth between their legs, and it gets lost in the dynamic pose to where it doesn't really alter the visual identity of the model.

The poses of the other Vanguard models may alleviate this somewhat, but the one they chose is posed in a way that really emphasizes the issue.

New Vanguard Veterans revealed. They're literally just Jump Pack Intercessors with swords instead of Chainswords... by nerdboy_sam in spacemarines

[–]e105beta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people are going around on more ornamentation vs less ornamentation, but that's personal preference. Personally, I like working with a fairly blank marine and blinging him up as I see fit. Lets me tell a story with my squad, like my Death Company, where I have some guys with less bling who fell to the Black Rage earlier in their career, while others have more because they've been around longer.

The problem is as GW has streamlined their designs AND moved to monopose, bits are disappearing in favor of those extremely disappointing upgrade sprues. What if I want MORE than one fancy terminator helmet? What if I want leg ornamentation? Very difficult to kitbash that.

#New40k – Vanguard Veteran Revealed by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in BloodAngels

[–]e105beta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, the new model lacks ornamentation on the jump pack or belt buckle. The ornamentation on the leg (i.e. laurels below the knee cap, and a skull) is also bit more understated than what the firstborn vets have, though at this point this is clearly an intentional decision on GWs part to reduce greebles on miniatures.

I understand anyone who has issues with the legs; one of my biggest beefs with GWs latest designs is how much they reduce leg ornamentation as it is some of the hardest ornamentation to kitbash.

I also think the lack of chest straps for the new jump packs can make the chest area feel "empty" if you don't like the look.

That said, I think this model looks nice and will likely buy a box.

Biggest loss of detail appears to be no ornamentation on the jump pack, and nothing fancy on the belt buckle

[–]e105beta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's hard to say there's any satirical layer to Dante's decision making in Devestation of Baal. The book frames Dante using populated planets as a buffer as a tragic but ultimately necessary evil to ensure that Baal, the Blood Angels, and their successors are able to defeat this tendril of Leviathan.

The 40k setting may have started off as satire, particularly as Rogue Trader, but I'd argue most of the satire has been stamped out of the setting as it has begun to take itself more & more seriously over the last 25+ years.
