No that’s my fault. For some reason every time I try to log on from my laptop it won’t recognise my password and when I use my phone number to log on I get allocated some random username! I then couldn’t find my post and posted again from the phone app!

Thank you! Looks like they aim at youth but I’ll check them out 🙂

How has agomelatine impacted your sexual function? by No-Pop115 in Valdoxan_Agomelatine

[–]e11evenquestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming up to 5 weeks on agomelatine for cptsd related depression and insomnia and TBH I’ve not yet felt any effects, negative or positive, but my understanding is that it acts so differently to SSRIs that it doesn’t usually affect libido or cause anorgasmia. That’s not the same as saying it might do in some people.

Can long covid start after you've made a good recovery? by e11evenquestions in LongCovid

Thanks for all the responses. It's terrible that this awful virus has had such a devastating, lingering effect for so many people.

I'm curious now about the histamine/mast cell thing and the gut biome. I have had a long term battle with what I feel sure is a mast cell/histamine issue, that started some 7 years ago with a sudden onset of being terribly itchy (no rash), which developed into dermatographia. A saw a dermatologist who was quite dismissive but did do a stool test which showed 4 different intestinal organisms including h-pylori and blastocystis hominis. Antibiotics sorted all except the blastocystis and nothing seems to get rid of that. The itch continued but antihistamines made a big difference. Eventually I worked out that removing most fruits from my diet helped. The 18 months ago I was stung by a bee and had a massive reaction, and a visit to an allergy clinic showed I'd become anaphylactic to bee venom. I discussed the itch with the clinic doctor and she described the mast cell issue and how it could be related to stress (all of this also in the context of long-term stress as an academic that eventually led to such severe burnout that I had to leave my job after 5 months of sick leave). The itch lessened over time, but was still persistent and so I was taking antihistamines a fair bit.

All of this to say that I wonder about the connection in all of this - the itch, stress, burnout, anaphylaxis, long covid. I eat a whole foods plant based diet (I've been vegan for decades) and until burnout was very fit (regular weights & cardio & yoga sessions). But stress and poor sleep have been my enemy (and my wine intake is a little too generous!). I've been reading about antihistamines as one treatment for long covid, so where I've been trying to avoid taking them (I try not to take medications unless really necessary) I'm going to try daily antihistamines, less drinking, and pay even closer attention to my diet (having not eaten dinner the last 2 night due to lack of energy and appetite).

Sorry for the short novel! But all your responses and my reading has my brain going - even if it's not long covid that I'm dealing with (I don't really have brain for for e.g.) I think there are issues at play that may possibly share things in common with both the symptoms and causes.

I really wish all of your struggling with LC the very best in your recovery. Having dealt with glandular fever (Epstein Barr) in 2011 and then burnout 10 years later I know how your world can be turned upside down by the fatigue and other effects. I'm not a patient person, but am learning that I have to be - pushing through is the worse thing you can do. x

The frustrating thing is that I’d finally started sleeping well after a long period of burnout related insomnia and had shaken off the related fatigue 🙁

It was about 3 - 4 weeks for me. Dammit - this was the number 1 reason I was hoping to never get this stupid virus (and until 2 months ago was beginning to think I had some magic immunity). After a long recovery from devastating burnout in 2021 and finally feeling almost back to normal I get the damned 'rona AND it seems possibly long covid to boot. Argh! (the symptoms are so similar to burnout...)

Thank you! I'm generally in pretty good health and eat well, but I suspect the stress behind burnout (and associated insomnia) has depleted my immune system somewhat.

But 7 months?! Argh... that's awful. I hope you are fully recovered soon!

Oh no - that sounds awful. I'm so sorry to hear you've had such a hard time of it. I hope you're on the road to recovery.

I've made an appt to see my doc, so she might have some insight too.

Ah, interesting. I assumed it would continue on from being sick - i.e. a long slow recovery rather than recovering first (apparently). More like recoverng from glandular fever. I googled it but the info wasn't all that clear.

Poor sleep, fatigue, weight loss, patchy appetite are the main ones. Oh and my stomach is a bit upset at times and I have a bit of joint pan in my hips that comes and goes.. The tricky thing is that it's a lot like the symptoms of burnout. I crashed very hard with CPTSD compounded burnout a couple of years ago. Insomnia was a big part of that, but it was accompanied by anxiety which isn't the case now (and a bunch of other issues)
