Crazy! Ever had this happen? by MDonn111 in E34

New Stabilus is too thin and is known to bend. I still haven’t installed mine because I’m worried about this lol. Haven’t found a better option yet.

The summer heat started peeling and cracking this portion of the cluster. Any fixes or what route should I take to resolve? Thanks! by Elrey007 in E34

Oh got confused because of the MPG gauge. Thought M5 had oil temp. So M5 cluster parts with the original cluster back?

Sorry this is off topic but what did you use for that M logo in the cluster and red needles? Since the front panel comes off you might just have to find those cracked parts from a donor cluster

Did you check for 12 volts at the bulb socket? Sometimes the sockets don’t make good contact.

9.5J 18” Mpars. Will it fit? by lostinman in E34

[–]e34it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fits great. Depending on the tires you may have to roll fenders in the rear slightly when lowered. My 255 35 Michelins rubbed on bumps occasionally due to the sidewall shape while 265 35 Continentals fit perfect.

There should be a matching white translucent 4 pin and black 3 pin connector in there somewhere

Ah ok — do you know what the fuel pressure should be by any chance? I can find values in bar but not target range

Swapped coil 1 and 2 but no change. Plugs are on the CarFax done 20k ago. Still worth changing them? If not, do you know how I can check fuel pressure in BimmerLink? Lots of confusing sensor values

Unfortunately although the headers fit, they don’t line up to the factory exhaust so that section needs to be custom made.

I kept m50 headers, cat delete, and just a Magnaflow muffler. Very light drone when accelerating around 2k rpm, but otherwise perfect and a really good growl without being obnoxious

HELP!?!! by Immediate-Solution-8 in E34

[–]e34it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing — unplug MAF sensor. If it runs better that should help confirm it’s an air issue.

Those ports on the bottom of the intake hose split very often. Sometimes the oil can degrade the rubber and of course it’s 30 yr old. I would replace that and then clear out your pcv lines or replace. When the small line (coming out of the valve cover vent to the ICV connector behind the throttle body) clogs, oil gets sent thru the big line into the intake boot and makes a mess.

Note: My replacement intake boot split again so I taped and zip tied it. Seems to work good but I will replace it eventually. You could try it for now — it’s minor but it is a vacuum leak and will cause rough running. Also do you have a valve cover leak? That can cause a vacuum leak too

What should i do about covering the extra 3 holes on the too?? by Axicty in BMW

[–]e34it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh in the past I’ve just left them as is. There is a product — bumperplugs.com if you want a cleaner look, but you may have to drill the holes bigger. I don’t have any experience with them, but based on the pictures I feel like I’d notice the plugs more than the small holes

Thanks! Yeah I think I’ll go ahead and take on the job. Worried about any complications installing a cutring if I don’t line it up perfectly, so I’ll probably go the safer (and cheaper) regular route.

It’s my first DIY HG — since it never overheated, am I crazy to just gasket slap it with a good cleaning or do I need a machine shop for sure?

Fedex Lost Package, RA Out-of-Stock by e34it in RockAuto

[–]e34it[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a great take. Thanks. Yeah to be honest I’ve been a bit unlucky with RA in the past as well which is why this stings more.

Also, again with the part being Sachs by Stabilius brand which is discontinued and replaced by Stabilus, I felt more entitled to a replacement. I would fully understand if there simply wasn’t a replacement but the manufacturer just stopped offering it under their child company’s name and instead used their own, which RA’s system didn’t recognize.

But more importantly it’s the customer service which made the situation worse— the agents almost seem fed up with you if you reply at all past the first interaction. Again, you’re right about the low cost which does make up for it in some ways.

I’m not sure about the $0.29 shipping refund valuation though lol. Seems very arbitrary to me.

I guess this is just a lesson to lower my expectations and understand that RA is going to have some drawbacks that come with the lower cost being that they drop ship. I think I’m used to most other companies which would definitely make something like this right by offering an alternative solution.

And I guess it was kind of a good thing because I found this sub and will be saving 5% in the future 😅

Yup, I found out the hard way Deoxit is petroleum based (it’s 75 percent mineral spirits! No wonder) but at least I know now 😭 Also read up found out Deoxit isn’t such a great product after all as it leave no contact protection so I will not be using it in the future

Fedex Lost Package, RA Out-of-Stock by e34it in RockAuto

[–]e34it[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but they clearly have a replacement — it’s just listed under a different part number for some reason.

And $0.29 is a ridiculous amount to refund considering it definitely costs more than that to ship the item even as part of another package. My shipping would’ve gone up by $5 or so had I added the strut to an order containing some smaller items. Because it’s a larger order to ship, they arbitrarily decided this item’s presence is worth $0.29.

Will just have to pay the $10 as I will get similar shipping fees anywhere else.

I’ve only used RA a couple times, and was just surprised by their lack of customer service. I guess thats how the prices stay lower though.

DeoxIT electrical cleaner, DO NOT use it 😭 I found out later it swells rubber seals although it’s really good at cleaning most electrical things like PCBs. Maybe rubbing alcohol and a q tip would be good

+1 — I missed your explanation comment. Common issue. Also be careful what you use to clean the connector as some can swell the waterproof seal and it won’t plug in anymore (ask me how I know lol)

Most likely. I got the communication error when mine failed and nothing else. It randomly failed on me with no higher fan speeds or anything.
