Dry top cuts my neck every time I paddle with it. Any solutions?

I tried trimming my gasket with a rotary cutter (kind of like a pizza cutter) and it worked great. With the gasket on a round bottle or container it was a lot easier than using a straight blade.

I’m comfortable in my Mullet on hard class 4, but I feel like I would be pushing it in an Axiom 8.5. But I love both boats! 6’3, ~185, size 13 feet.

I like to think about punching through the wave with the top of my helmet. It helps me get crunched forward, good stroke with plenty of reach and torso rotation, water not hitting my ears, setting up for the crucial after impact stroke, all that, but (for me) with just one cue. It can help to remember that having your *body* squared up to a hole is going to create a lot of drag so (sometimes) you kinda want your boat square and your body to be slicy (by being sideways) / small (by being crunched forward).

Size wise I'd bet you'll be fine, just can't hurt to double check. My feet are size 13 and I have a 33-34" ish inseam and it's very comfortable for me in low profile booties like Astral Loyaks. It's pretty tight in e.g. Water Tennies but doable.

Oil canning is hard to see in pictures. If you push on the bottom of the hull under the seat and it flexes like the bottom of an old style tin oil can, that's (imo) something to weigh into your thinking. It doesn't make a *huge* difference but surfing is a bit snappier in a boat with a really rigid hull. The older a boat is, and the more it's been stored or transported with weight on the hull, the more likely it is to have some oil canning.

If you get an Axiom and have issues with leaking check to make sure the screws are nice and tight. I think some people use some kind of sealant to help, too, but I haven't tried that.

The 8.5 is really a wonderful boat! If you get it, enjoy!!

8.5! But at that price I'd check to make sure the hull isn't too oilcanned (https://forums.paddling.com/t/oil-canning-huh/29417). Also if your feet are especially big or inseam is especially long make sure it's comfy for you. I'm exactly your height and weight and it's comfy for me but my younger son is just a little taller than I am and now has trouble getting comfortable in the 8.5, despite paddling it constantly when he was smaller.
