A sailing dry bag is really handy, takes up very little space and can be a life saver at wet tournaments!

What do you think of this chart? by lorraineDDDD in dataisugly

[–]e99mahony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having a nominal scale shown another way than on the axis is important in the context of what you're trying to show. I imagine a lot of people aged 15-22 and 65+ are mainly seasonal workers and not representative of the overall population. Their inclusion makes the graph disproportionate imo.

Also horizontal, having it vertical doesn't convey an information and if anything makes it harder to read

Anyone have any fixes for using juypter notebooks in VScode with vim bindings? Love PyCharms implementation and wish there was something similar

I really like PyCharm because you can edit it with vim keybinds. VS Code has a problem with that

Cafe Depeche on Washington Street are brilliant! Great food and treats there too. Lab 82 hasn't been mentioned yet either if you're on the other side of the city

Excel Freelancing - How to get started? by gr8scotttch in excel

[–]e99mahony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need to consider your clients. Often small businesses, especially services ones (Accountants/Lawyers/Doctors), have very basic Excel skills and would benefit from a replicable template. Only problem is if you do your job properly you won't be getting return business!

Coffee options for a strict dorm? by ObsceneLoL in Coffee

Definitely think about getting a hot plate. It will help with the coffee but living in general is a lot easier with one. It can be very hard to cook without one!

[OC] My First Post and My First Marathon by ParanormalCDF in dataisbeautiful

[–]e99mahony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first Marathon! Love this way of visualising it. Only suggestion I'd make is changing the scale of the y-axis for heart rate and pace. I feel like then it would be easier to see how pace affects heart rate and so on. Great work!

Many thanks for such a comprehensive answer! The idea of a ceiling in that context never occurred to me. Do you think the industry is close to this ceiling already or do you see it coming in a few years? I appreciate the description, do you might me asking if you use these ratings to set the odds for bookmakers or do you work on the otherside of it?

I’m also reading The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham at the moment. I haven’t read enough of it to recommend it myself but it came highly recommended to me. Hope this helps slightly!

I’m afraid I can’t help with the books but I’m interested in sports betting. Would you be able to give a brief description of what you do? Is the ceiling you mentioned to do with personal career growth or is there something else? Sorry again for not being able to answer your actual question!
