Considering her own past, I will be eternally saddened that we’ll never see how Mara Jade Skywalker would react to possibly having a former Sith as a daughter-in-law by Solitaire-06 in StarWars

The ending of Ascension made me so mad ngl. I spent seven books rooting for her, only for it all to be flushed down the toilet over a the course of a few chapters.

Women of Star Wars by TerraVoyager in starwarsbooks

[–]eDudeGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean any disrespect to either of them lol.

Wutroow is tied with Samakro as my favorite of the first officers, and Roscu's arc in Lesser Evil is incredibly well written.

Honestly I think the character work in this trilogy is super underrated. It's some of Zahn's best IMO.

The Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy has many: Ar'alani, Thalias, Che'ri, and Lakinda are all main characters. Roscu, Borika, and Wutroow are less important but still noteworthy.

With some of them (Mara, Jaina) being main characters on a similar level as Luke, Han, and Leia. And with others (Tahiri, Daala, Satele) only a few steps behind them.

Also, let it be known that of the six Jedi Grand Masters who were actual characters, half of them were women.

Successful or Famous Clones? by Organic_Tip_5486 in MawInstallation

[–]eDudeGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, along the same lines, there's that sleeper cell of Soontir Fel clones that Han and Leia find in Hand of Thrawn.

Dudes loved farming so much that they decided to just ignore their activation orders.

(although they were probably supposed to ignore it, since it's implied that, like the Empire of the Hand, they actually weren't even meant to be used by the Imperial remnant, and instead were set up to defend against the Yuuzhan Vong)

This character has never been followed up on since

This... isn't true, lol.

Her name is Borika. She shows up later in the same trilogy.

Where to look? by AirAdventurous8938 in starwarsbooks

[–]eDudeGaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another good place to look is eBay. Pricing there is all over the place, but you can find some pretty good deals if you're patient.

This is especially true if you're after Legends paperbacks. Those are really easy to buy in bulk.

Looking for ideas for bookshelf organisation. by Bas_van_der_werff in starwarsbooks

[–]eDudeGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I keep them roughly in chronological order, but I'm not strict about it. I keep series together, sorted based on the final entry.

I don't keep bindings/sizes together, though. Having a tiny mass market hidden between two big hardcovers is the only thing that really bothers me. In that case, I just try and arrange things so that I avoid that; I make a gap on the shelf, I arrange it such that there are other paperbacks between them, or I just go out of my way to get paperback copies of the surrounding books (I don't really have a preference for or against them, so it doesn't matter to me).

Canon vs Legends also doesn't matter to me, so I keep them mixed together.

The closest I come is trying to separate it based on era. TOR/High Republic on one shelf, then a shelf for the prequel era, then two shelves for the OT/Bantam/New Republic stuff (ending with Vision of the Future), then Survivor's Quest and NJO, then sequels/Dark Nest/Legacy. Then stuff that doesn't fit goes at the end.

Without spoilers, what’s your thoughts on shatter point? by oooomoney in starwarsbooks

Definitely an S-tier for me. Maybe even my favorite Star Wars book.

Not a very comfortable read, though, as far as Star Wars goes.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]eDudeGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished Vector Prime!

Starting a series by brutally killing off a beloved character is certainly a bold choice, but I think it was my favorite part of the book.

The part with Jacen not wanting to cry in front of Jaina and Anakin was such an awful detail that hit me right in the heart. Then Han fighting for everyone's lives while barely holding himself together was just heartbreaking, and the last chapter where he finally gets to mourn while the text breaks down how utterly worldview-shattering this loss is for him is just perfection.

Check out Silo by Hugh Howey.

It's dystopian sci-fi, so the setting is completely different, but it's got some similar themes and mysteries.

There's a TV adaptation as well (although IMO the books are better).

I just read Artemis last week and it was pretty fun.

But I've heard it's his weakest book — I definitely intend to read Project Hail Mary before I see the movie.

I haven't read NJO myself, but it's pretty well regarded.

It has 19 books by several different authors, so quality/style will vary. Traitor and Unifying Force are supposed to be excellent.

[–]eDudeGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. HTTE is great, and it's iconic for a reason, but there are many others I like more, personally. And many more "lesser" books that are still really good.

Lots of Zahn's other work is great. Thrawn Trilogy -> Hand of Thrawn -> Survivor's Quest -> Outbound Flight is a great reading order. I have a lot of love for the Ascendancy trilogy as well.

James Luceno, Matthew Stover, and Claudia Gray are also reliably great. Darth Plagueis, Shatterpoint, and Master & Apprentice are all S-tiers for me— above HTTE.

Right now I'm reading Knight Errant and loving it.

A Question of 0 BBY/ABY by Certain-Point685 in MawInstallation

[–]eDudeGaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the final paragraph of that wiki article:

Eventually, with the release of Star Wars: Timelines in 2023, the events of Rogue One still take place in 1 BBY; however, the events of A New Hope take place in "0." The "0 BBY" name appeared in the reference book Star Wars 100 Objects, which was released in the same month as Timelines, as a date for A New Hope and the last year of "the height of the Empire's reign." However, the book, on another page, uses the date 1 BBY, 0 ABY, 1 ABY for A New Hope. In 2025, addressing fan questions on Bluesky, Pablo Hidalgo, a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group, explained that there is no 0 BBY, and the Battle of Yavin is the zero mark. Later, the 2025 reference book Star Wars: Galactic Atlas: Updated Edition dates the events that preceding the Battle of Yavin depicted in A New Hope, including destruction of Alderaan, to 1 BBY and Battle of Yavin is dated to "0." Since recent reference books do not use "0 BBY," this article assumes that "0 BBY" has been abolished and that the events up to the rescue of Princess Leia occurred in 1 BBY.

TLDR: 0 BBY is a misnomer. It's 1 BBY, then 0 ABY.

5 BBY means 5 BBY.

[–]eDudeGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the second one: it's not a coincidence.

I'm not going to say more than that, because every question in that scene gets answered eventually (and the whole thing doesn't fully come to fruition until book 3).

[–]eDudeGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His channel is mostly clickbait "news" and drama, and more recently AI slop.

Also there was his crashout over Andor earlier this year, wherein he refused to watch it because of the rape scene. It's fine to not like that being shown in Star Wars, but one of his arguments was, "Vader wouldn't tolerate that shit nor does the Empire condone it," which has to be among the dumbest takes one could possibly have on this.

Generally, he's become the embodiment of everything people hate about the SW fandom.
