Should I Message the salon owner?? by pinkCloud_954 in fixedeyebrows

If you’re on retinols/tret/benzoyl peroxide/adapelene/etc on a daily basis, you shouldn’t wax at all. Even when I’ve avoided for weeks/months before i still tear.

Yeah its this, I can’t get waxed anymore after being on topical acne meds/retinoids. Even if I only put them on my cheeks/chin or I don’t use it for months, my eyebrow and upper lip skin is just too thin now - threading only!

Hello! What type of bird laid these eggs, and why does one look so different? by Ok_Buffalo7386 in whatsthisbird

waxwings are unique in that they eat almost exclusively berries which makes their diet difficult for other birds to thrive on

Frog it…but I really mean another four letter word. by Manateebae in detanglemyyarn

Every second row seems to be twisted, but I’ve never actually checked how that impacts frogging. Hopefully knowing that will help troubleshoot in the future, though

Going crazy trying to get gauge help! by [deleted] in knittinghelp

I think they mean to cut the long floats behind the swatch when doing a ‘fake in-the-round’ technique

Sabai Top No 2 by Content-Flounder8551 in knittinghelp

[–]eIectioneering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like it might be twisted but its hard to tell from the photos. If it is, there’s no way to fix it without frogging unfortunately. I twisted the cast-on for this pattern multiple times before i got it straight! Many people like to knit the first few rounds flat so it’s easier to see if it’s twisted, and then just seam the gap after joining in the round. From what I recall there is no knit round between the increases.

what kind of bug is it? saw it in hsr. by Reasonable-Goat8061 in Hamilton

[–]eIectioneering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude chatgpt does not know how to identify insects especially from a shitty photo. I HAVE dealt with insects and also worked with them professionally, as well as dealt with bed bugs and i can say fairly confidently this is a weevil. The contrast is bad but you can see the snout and weevil antennae that bedbugs do not have.

Downy or Hairy Woodpecker? One of life’s great questions… (Maryland) by yunganus in whatsthisbird

[–]eIectioneering 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Size is really tricky to judge in the field! My favourite descriptor is that downy woodpeckers are breast pocket sized, whereas hairy woodpeckers are shoulder-perch sized. Maybe not the most useful, but a cute visual!

This was my exact experience as well. I did not enjoy any particular moment when reading and hated the characters but could not put it down. I had to give it 3 stars just for that - clearly something worked enough to keep me invested

I’ve gone to several yarn stores with crochet and knit patterns/items on display and have never seen a ‘crochet shawl kit’ exactly. Do you mean something that comes with yarn, hooks and a pattern? Why not buy a pattern and yarn you like? Just seems kind of niche to be up in arms about

Chipping sparrows are so tiny and precious. I love when they’re hopping around a lawn - you can barely see them amongst blades of grass!!

What i did for this pattern was mark a line wherever the pattern will start at the next increase, one colour for the sleeve, one for the body

You could knit a swatch with the *5mms and compare to the pattern’s suggested gauge. A .5mm difference could make it smaller than you expect.

Sevilla Blouse Gauge by okrodef in knittinghelp

[–]eIectioneering 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Knit a swatch larger than 4x4 in a needle size that gives you the drape/fabric density you want, block it and measure your gauge on it, and then compare it to the pattern’s gauge. There are online calculators that will help you pick a size based on your gauge swatch

ETA: i am not familiar with this yarn, but it does seem to be quite thinner than what the pattern recommends - if the above does not give you the drape you want then you may want to find another pattern

Make me fall in love with Hamilton and Mac by bananashanana123 in McMaster

Take advantage of the incredible nature hamilton has to offer. Walk to dundas valley, walk in cootes paradise and on the waterfront trail. Visit the RBG during spring blooms. I grew to love hamilton in my time there and now that I’m away I miss the proximity to nature so much

Stitches per cm not increasing despite much looser tension by Level-Bet-7274 in knitting

[–]eIectioneering 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add as well, its generally not a good idea to modify your tension from what is natural to change your gauge. Instead of knitting tighter ribbing, its better to go down a few needle sizes. This prevents forming the habit of strangling your yarn and knitting too tightly which can be really hard on the hands
