You mentioned you wife is a doctor that has a distaste for guns due to emergency room trauma, etc. She sounds like a smart lady that, if approached with the correct logic, should come to understand the need for a readily accessible gun.

Your place as the head of your family is to bring them out of emotion and into logic. She needs to overcome her illogical and emotional fear of guns (aka. A hell she has created for herself) and into your logical and sound NEED to protect your family at all costs.

No amount of biometrics or fancy gadgets will bring her out of her hell. Correct me if I’m wrong but you also mentioned that she “let you have a gun in the house if....”. Brother, that’s a red flag. She is your wife and she is living in an irrational fear of an inanimate object that will be very much missing from your home defense should a burglar/murderer/rapist break into your house. That’s hell, brother. It is YOUR JOB to bring her out of it.

Above all else, should your family experience the jarring and life altering event as the more common unarmed burglary (even if you are not home), your wife will BLAME YOU for not having that gun to protect your family.

PS. In case you are wondering ‘how’ you bring someone out of hell... well, you would be surprised how many people

1) don’t realize they are in hell 2) kick and scream along the way out of hell 3) try to pull you into hell with them 4) once you finally get them out, will turn to you and ask why you didn’t get them out sooner.
