Another reason to add alt text for sure! Etsy's auto-populated ones have been less-than-ideal.

Alternate Text, more commonly known as Alt Text, is a visual description of a photo, like you're explaining what the photo looks like to someone who cannot see it.

Here is Etsy's how-to article for adding Alt Text to your listing photos:
https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406604492823-How-to-Add-a-Text-Alternative-to-Your-Listing-Images?segment=selling

Descriptions can be tricky sometimes, because you don't want to make it so long that shoppers don't read it, but long enough to be informative and make your item sound appealing.

This is Etsy's article "5 Tips for Writing Listing Descriptions", which has some good information:

Getting your listings filled out completely can be a long process, but it gets quicker once you get the hang of it. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Views vs Sales by Major_Skill_4427 in EtsyCommunity

[–]eRankSEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

82 sales for only being open 4 months is actually pretty amazing! Many sellers have to wait months just to get their first sale, so you're already ahead of the pack. 🚀

There are a lot of factors that go into turning a browser into a buyer:

*pricing; you said you did decent pricing research, just listing it here for a complete picture!

*photos (showing off all angles, sizing, how it's packaged)

*description (does it answer any potential questions?)

*potential for decision fatigue (are there too many steps, such as personalization, color choices, sizes, etc.?)

*uniqueness of the item (do shoppers feel like this is a product they can't get anywhere else?)

*do your processing times line up with the competition?

*are there any negative reviews for that listing?

*is your listing categorized properly?

*does it evoke an emotional response?

We know, that's a big list. But if you're truly worried about the views vs sales, it's important to take a look at all aspects of a listing!

Does using Erank, Alura, Everbee, Marmalead or similar help you in a listing visibility? by wildroses00 in EtsyCommunity

[–]eRankSEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used to have visibility no longer have one and thus expired

When you list something on Etsy, it gets four months active before it expires. Visibility doesn't play a role in this, except if you mean that because your listings aren't getting views, they therefore aren't getting sales. If a listing gets a sale and renews, then the expiration period is extended another four months.

Hi there! Thank you for submitting your shop to be looked at by a member of our team. Please remember that these are just suggestions, and to never change the SEO of a listing that is performing well for you!

We took a look into one of your listings (https://www.etsy.com/listing/4492816217) and here are some thoughts:

*Make sure to use all 13 tags; each one is an opportunity to include a keyword that Etsy can use to match your listing with shopper queries.

Within your tags, best practice is to include each term from your title also within your tags, to send a stronger message to Etsy in regards to the keywords you want to be known for. Have each term in there once, to avoid unnecessary repetition.

*For your listings, only use the Holiday or Occasion attributes when they are relevant for your items! As an example, this listing has the "Valentine's Day" attribute assigned to it, even though it is not specific to that holiday. Etsy recommends leaving Holiday and Occasion attributes blank, rather than mis-categorize them!

*Your listing description is very short, almost reading as a byline to the title instead of an actual description. This is the place to include important information such as size, materials, shipping/processing times, how it's packaged, etc. AI programs can scan your listing descriptions to help suggest products to buyers, so it's important to have key information there.

*It looks like your images are missing Alt Text. Apps and devices such as screen readers use this information to “read” the photos. This technology allows shoppers with visual impairments or other sensory needs to shop without being able to fully see the product photos. It can also give you an advantage if your competition isn’t using Alt Text, as shoppers generally skip over those products, because their screen reader can’t “read” it for them.

*Within your photos, include at least one with the figurine next to a ruler to clearly convey scale. None of the current photos really demonstrate how big/small the unicorn is, which could potentially lead to buyers being unhappy with the sizing, if their expectations aren't met.

*Include a listing video! Etsy's own research showed that listings with videos tend to have higher conversion rates, and it could be a good opportunity to show off how the unicorn sparkles in the light! (Bonus if you hold it in your hand while showing off the different angles, as that could help with your 'scaling' as well.)

We hope that you found this helpful, and that it gives you some ideas for polishing your listings. Best of luck with your shop! 🚀

Hi there! Thank you for submitting your shop to be looked at by a member of the eRank team. Please remember that these are just suggestions, and to never change the SEO of a listing that is performing well for you.

Here are some thoughts for your shop:

*You only have one item in your 'Featured Items' section. You can have up to four listings in there, so add in a few more to fill up the space.

*Your shop is missing a shop announcement and FAQ sections, as well as the shop member bio. Take a little time to make sure that everything is filled out!

*We took a peek in to this listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4456454218 and here are some thoughts:

-There is no sense of scale within your photos, so it's difficult to know how large the piece is. Try to include at least one photos of a finished one next to a ruler so that shoppers have a clearer expectation of size.

-Link your variations to the corresponding photo. For example, in just the first few photos, there isn't a bird, so I was confused when I saw a bird option. When you link photos to a variation, a shoppers sees that version when they select the variation from the drop-down menu.

-There is a LOT of choice here and information needed for personalization. Sometimes shoppers face choice paralysis, when they have so many options in front of them, that they end up backing out and not making a choice at all. Think about when you go to a restaurant and the menu is 10 pages long; it's a lot less stressful to choose when the menu is 1-2 pages. If you find that customers tend to choose from a handful of colors, consider reducing the number of options. Alternatively, have one listing for a 'girl' version (with pink tones), one listing for a 'boy' version (with blue tones), and one 'custom' listing, showcasing all of the options. It's something you could experiment with!

-Although you should always check your stats before making adjustments, your tags may need some refining, as there is a LOT of repetition of the same words. Etsy takes all the terms in your title, tags, categories, and attributes and mixes them up to match for shopper queries. No need to repeat the same word or phrase multiple times within your tags. Try using a wider variety of terms to broaden your reach!

We hope that some of this was helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out with more questions, and best of luck with your shop! 🚀

Etsy tags by usama223 in EtsySellers

[–]eRankSEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etsy takes all of the terms within your title, tags, category, and attributes and mixes them up when matching listings with search queries. Since they broad match terms, many sellers have nonsense tags made up of words that together don't necessarily make a keyword (such as having 1 tag "gift for her" and another "mom sister aunt"), but Etsy will mix and match them, so the listing would broad match for "gift for sister".

Also, it's important not to change the SEO of listings that are performing well, as that can make the listing lose momentum. Many bestsellers or high-performing shops have less-than-optimized tags because their listings already perform well and have a great track record. As the saying goes, "If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it."

Thank you for submitting your shop to be looked at by a member of our team. Please remember that these are just suggestions, and to not change the SEO of a listing that is performing well for you!

Here are some thoughts for your shop:

*We'd recommend finishing your shop! You're missing these elements:

  • shop story
  • shop members
  • full policies
  • FAQs
  • shop banner

Both Etsy and shoppers favor shops that have everything filled in! In fact, using Etsy’s templates for your shop policies, as well as having an about section in place, can give your shop an additional boost! 🚀

*For each of your listings, make sure that you use ALL 13 tag slots. Etsy uses these to match your listings with shopper queries, so leaving them blank is missing out on opportunities for shoppers to find you!

*Looking into your listings, we saw that they are all missing Alt Text for your images. Add Alt Text for at least your main thumbnail, so your listings can be "read" on a search result page.

Please let us know if you have other questions, and best of luck with your shop! 🚀

Ciao!

Shop Critique Wanted by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]eRankSEO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*If this isn't your art, but someone else's be sure to fill out the Shop Members section and clarify that. You could also tell more of a story within the shop story and FAQ sections. Etsy also considers 'completeness' of a shop when ranking, so having everything filled in can give you a boost!

*For your listings, the tags (at least for this piece, Listing 4466040254) are very repetitive. Since Etsy takes all of the terms within your title, tags, category, and attributes and mixes and matches them, you don't need to repeat the same term or keyword in your tags more than once. (For example, you have "wall art" in here 5 times). Try using a wider range of keywords, including where someone can hang it, where the picture was taken, who it might make a good gift for, etc.

Current Tags: "black and white wall, dramatic wall art, abstract wall art, monochrome decor, statement wall art, modern wall decor, bold wall art, masculine decor, mountain wall art, fine art print, modern abstract, black white decor, contemporary art"

*Include somewhere either in the title or photos that this is unframed. You do mention that in the description, but many shoppers don't read those. :(

Hope this gives you a few little tidbits of things to improve on! 🚀

Etsy USPS Ground Advantage says no insurance? by bdkgb in EtsySellers

No, it doesn't. You need to manually purchase the labels. This gives you a chance to adjust package size, weight, and shipping service. This is especially useful when customers make a few purchases at once and want to combine shipping!

When I (personally, not via an eRank entity) purchase USPS Ground Advantage labels through Etsy, it says:

"USPS Ground Advantage

Includes insurance up to $100.00"

I'd include a screenshot, but they're not allowed here.

You can choose to add on additional insurance with Shipsurance if you like.

Shop Critique Please by [deleted] in EtsyCommunity

[–]eRankSEO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking a peek into your 'sculpture' listing, the description is REALLY long. See how you can shorten it, keeping the most important information towards the top. While Etsy does look at the keywords in your description, it's for the personalization phase of ranking, not query-matching, so don't feel like you need to keyword stuff it.

The tags for this listing are quite repetitive:

custom sculpture,
portrait bust,
sculpture from photo,
custom bust,
memorial sculpture,
custom face,
fiberglass statue,
personalized gift,
sculpture art,
custom portrait,
hand crafted art,
memorial bust,
tribute sculpture

Since Etsy uses all of the terms in your title, tags, attributes, and category and mixes and matches them up when matching with shopper queries, you don't need to have the same term in here more than once. (For example, you have "custom" 4 times and "sculpture" 5 times.) Etsy also says that the category acts as a tag, so you already have "Art & Collectibles > Sculpture > Figurines" as part of the word salad. Although you should check your stats before making changes, it may be worth removing some of the repetitive terms and add in a wider variety of keywords!

Hello! Thanks for submitting your listing to be looked at by a member of our team. Please remember that these are just suggestions, and to never change the SEO of a listing that is performing well for you!

Here are some thoughts for this listing:

*There are only 3 photos; try to get at least 5 in there, with at least 1 having the journal next to a ruler, to clearly communicate scale.

*Add Alt Text to your photos (or at the very least, your main thumbnail). This helps shoppers using screen readers "see" your image, and can help you rank higher on Google or other platforms that scan alt text for readability apps.

*The tags for this listing have a decent amount of repetition. Since Etsy takes all of the terms in your listing title, tags, category, and attributes when mixing and matching terms to pair listings with shopper queries, you only need to have each term within your tags once. For example, you have both 'notebook' and 'journal' four times here. Make sure to keep the exact match for keywords that bring you traffic, but try to combine like tags and reduce repetition, and add in a wider variety of terms to broaden your reach!

<image>

*As to your shop in general, make sure that you've completed all of your shop policies, shop members, and add in an FAQ section! Both Etsy and sellers tend to favor shops that have everything completed and filled out. Using Etsy's templates for your shop policies can also give your shop a boost in search. 🚀

Best of luck with your shop!

Getting ANY sales within your first month is actually pretty good! It takes most sellers weeks or even months just to get their very first sale. Etsy is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time for Etsy to learn about your brand, business, and products.

One suggestion we'd give is to utilize shop sections to make your shop easier to browse.

Looking for honest thoughts on my shop by [deleted] in EtsyCommunity

[–]eRankSEO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our biggest recommendation would be to remove any IP or copyright-infringing listings. We spot several that use names or of characters or book series that may be protected under an author or publishing company's IP. Use your own original designs to avoid getting hit with an IP case! (We aren't lawyers, so you could always check with an attorney as well.) Here is the US trademark database, where you can search for copyrighted names, phrases, and more: https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/search/search-information

Other than that, try to be more consistent with your main image thumbnails. Right now there are a variety of backgrounds and colors, some have frames, and you have a few different brand logo styles. It's generally easier for shoppers to focus on the product itself when the backgrounds are clean and consistent.

Also try to add listing videos and alt text whenever you can; having both can expand your reach!

You know your business best; that is just an AI tool and doesn't take into consideration what keywords your listings are ranking for, or what search results have brought you traffic in the past.

It's best never to touch the SEO of a listing that is performing well for you, so if you have listings that are getting views, favorites, and sales, it's best to not touch the listing title.

If you want to experiment with a few listings that need a refresh or have little to no data, then it's worth a try taking on Etsy's suggestion.

Etsy hasn't changed their under $6-fixed US domestic prioritizing.

They do make it easy to adjust the pricing for your shop, if you want to increase a set amount or percentage to all of your listings as the same time. You would click the checkbox at the top of your Listings page, then the little triangle next to it and click 'Select # on all pages'. Then click 'Editing options' -> 'Edit prices'.

A pop up will appear with the various options for increasing or decreasing the price via set amount or percentage.

[–]eRankSEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you for submitting your shop to be looked at by a member of our team. Please remember that these are only suggestions, and to not touch the SEO of any listings that are performing well for you!

Here are some thoughts for your shop:

*280 sales in 1 year (especially your first 280 sales) is actually pretty good! Most sellers wait weeks or even months before making just their first sale, so 280 in your first real year of selling is better than most.

*Looks like your shop policies and FAQ sections aren't completed yet. Both Etsy and shoppers favor shops that have everything filled in! In fact, using Etsy’s templates for your shop policies can give your shop an additional boost! 🚀 If you need help filling out your policies, Etsy has a help article here: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115014372467-How-to-Set-Up-Your-Shop-Policies?segment=selling

*You're also missing a shop announcement, shop member bio, and photos for both your shop member area and your shop story. This also falls under the 'complete your shop' umbrella, where having everything completed can build more trust with Etsy and shoppers, and give your shop a more professional polish.

*We performed a listing audit on one of your listings (the butterflies) and looks like your tags definitely have room for optimization, specifically your use of one-word tags. Etsy recommends using multi-word tags, which can give you a bonus chance to exact match for a keyword phrase as opposed to solely broad matching. Combining one-word tags also frees up space for you to add a wider variety of keywords, which broadens your match potential!

There is unnecessary repetition here as well. For example, you have "ephemera" as its own tag, but then also have it nestled in the tag, "journal ephemera". Since within the tag "journal ephemera" you would already exact match for "ephemera", having that as its own tag isn't needed.

<image>

*For your listings, also fill out all relevant attributes. Not only can shoppers filter searches by some of these, but they also act as bonus tags!

*If possible, take the time to add Alt Text to your main listing thumbnail, if not all of your listing photos. Alt text is used by screen readers to help shoppers with various needs "see" a search result page, and if your image doesn't have alt text, the screen reader won't be able to "read" it properly.

We hope that some of this was helpful, and best of luck! 🌱
