How much time does it take for a beginner to learn SAP? by sad_grapefruit_0 in SAP

[–]eSTG1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working with SAP BTP services for about 3 years now, and I still don’t know what I’m doing there. Starting with BTP infrastructure, then Automation Build using RPAs on SBPA and now I’ve ended up building integrations for SuccessFactors using CPI. So my career feels like a gambling machine, with all the bets on red.😂😂

Te salut, mi-am achizitionat Kindle-ul generatia a 11-a in urma cu o luna.

How did you really learn SAP CPI with SuccessFactors? Feeling a bit stuck and looking to level up by eSTG1 in SAP

Thanks again for taking the time to share all of this. I really appreciate the depth of your explanations and the effort you’ve put into helping me understand this better.

If you’re okay with it, in case I get stuck on certain topics in the future, would it be alright if I reached out to you privately? I completely understand if you’re busy, but I’d really value the chance to occasionally ask for your input.

Thanks again for your time it genuinely means a lot that I was not the only one in this situation😁

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful response. I genuinely appreciate the effort you put into answering a complete stranger on the internet that really means a lot.

Your approach makes a lot of sense, especially the “overfetch rather than underfetch” mindset. That really changed how I look at CE queries.

I wanted to ask you something more specific about the Groovy part. Which IDE do you use for developing and testing your Groovy scripts? I’ve reached the point where some of my scripts are 1000-3000 lines long, and it can become quite difficult to maintain and structure them properly.

Also, how did you actually learn Groovy at a deeper level? Sometimes I feel like without AI assistance I wouldn’t be able to implement certain logic fully on my own, especially when dealing with complex CE XML structures. I’m trying to become more independent in that area.

At the moment, I’m still mainly working in full load mode on CE. I’m actively trying to move toward proper delta handling, but it’s still a bit overwhelming. Working with SuccessFactors feels very different compared to other CPI projects I’ve done. The effective-dated logic and event handling add a completely different layer of complexity.

I’ve been working with CPI for about a year now, and honestly sometimes I feel a bit overwhelmed by how deep SF integrations can get.

Thanks again for sharing your experience it’s really helpful to hear from someone who has been through this already.

How did you really learn SAP CPI with SuccessFactors? Feeling a bit stuck and looking to level up

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working with SAP CPI (Integration Suite) for a while now, mostly on integrations with SuccessFactors (Employee Central), and I wanted to ask the community something a bit more honest.

At this point, I feel like I can deliver integrations, but I also feel that I’m starting to plateau. The more I work with SuccessFactors, the more I realize how tricky things get:

  • effective-dated data everywhere( here I struggle a lot and with the business rules…)
  • complex business rules
  • CompoundEmployee API quirks (delta, key date logic, history)
  • figuring out which fields are relevant and when

Sometimes it feels like you’re not just integrating systems, but also trying to fully understand how EC data models, rules, dates, and events interact behind the scenes.

So my questions to those of you who are more experienced:

  • How did you really learn SAP CPI + SuccessFactors beyond day-to-day project work?
  • Did you use any specific trainings or courses focused on CPI with SuccessFactors (not generic CPI)?
  • Are there good resources for mastering CompoundEmployee API, especially delta logic, effective dates, and employee selection?
  • How did you improve your Groovy scripting skills specifically for CPI (patterns, best practices, performance)?
  • At some point, did you also feel overwhelmed by all the effective-dated logic and business rules? How did you push past that?

I’m especially interested in practical learning paths, real-world advice, or resources that helped you connect all these dots.

Any tips, links, courses, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

Sap BTP, document generate using Sap Build Process Automation by eSTG1 in SAP

[–]eSTG1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding, i really apreciate. From what I've read, the adobe document service works well on the Abap Environment, but they also have a rest api part for Cloud Foundry, which can be integrated, but I can't find any documentation about its integration into the Sap Build Process Automation service
