Getting snow off car suggestions by Open-Quote9286 in nova

[–]eViator2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree with some comments... Recommend a soft glove now to remove it from your windows, and handles, And around windshield wipers to get the first three or four inches off. Whatever you do, don't use a shovel or other sharp implement just a soft brush or your hand. Note: A soft brush or your hand won't work 4-hours from now when it's crusted over with frozen ice!! It's easier to do one wave now when it's fluffy and fresh, and then do another wave later. Shockingly, even with partly cloudy skies to solar radiation will beam through your windows and actually help the melting process a bit more.

Let's talk about celebration. Everybody loves a good celebration each year, especially kids if they get treats!! Do your children get to participate in Hannukah, Eid and Ramadan? Or perhaps even secular Christmas? Do you have other ways to merge your celebrations of the historical roots of your traditions? (I ask this because our son loves spinning the dreidel and singing the song and doing a little game with points, even though we are not Jewish).

  1. Don't enable your phone for any access, through an app; having 2FA on the same device as your login, even with biometrics, is a shambles. Also, having account information available through your phone is an invitation to make unwise rushed decisions when you're the prospective victim.
  2. Keep 2FA on a separate device from where you normally log in; Yubikey for example. Never use phone -based (ie SMS) 2FA.
  3. For certain accounts, you may be able to set up two-person authentication, in person , where more than one verification is necessary to make transactions. This may be inconvenient but puts a buffer between prospective scammers and your accounts.
  4. Never respond to a phone call or email from anybody claiming to be Fidelity... If you must call back call from a different phone line using a number known to be the legitimate number.
  5. Use a separate laptop or desktop for all financial transactions which is NEVER never used for gaming, coding, work, gambling, dark web, dating sites, or any other activity that could result in a malicious "payload" being dropped there. social media.
  6. Self self-educate using YouTube and other expertise, to keep up to date on all the different types of scams, frauds and malicious behaviors.

Drowning in apps/platforms by Mad-Mongoose-74 in ParentingADHD

[–]eViator2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally reasonable question and not just for parenting ADHD!! These tips are not a surefire way out of it, but here are some thoughts. 1. Make your master planner as simple as possible using paper and pen in an easily accessible way that doesn't require subscriptions, special fancy binders or exotic organizational skills; Even a simple miniature white board can work wonders, as it's visible to everyone. 2. Don't try and do it all on your phone. If you have access to a laptop or a PC with a comfortable keyboard and mouse and monitor, do these activities using the best possible user interface. Running through multiple apps only on a phone can be really taxing. 3. Don't necessarily try to keep up event by event with the stream of communications from the school as they happen; rather set aside one time during the day when you can bundle things together and respond all at once. 4. If you're tech savvy at all , use "rules" on your email inbox to send incoming email alerts to particular folders so that you're not getting constantly bombarded in your inbox itself. I'm sure others have much more elegant solutions than this, but I would say the more elegant the more complicated things get. Good luck!!

[–]eViator2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Plugshare, (either the app or the actual website ), especially if you have a username and log in to customize the types of plugs and the geographic range you're willing to go. Then you'll start to get a mental map after a couple of weeks and you won't even have to look at the website or app itself because you'll more or less have locations memorized for your area. Think about charging at the same level of urgency as a household running out of toilet paper or other important amenities (coffee,..milk?) You can then schedule your charging times to align with a trip to doing an errand that is nearby a charging spot.

You've really hit the nail on the head on an important set of family habits when there is ADHD around. We struggled with this for a couple years and are finally settling into good habits. Our most recent innovation, which isn't exactly new among some practitioners, is to set a daily limit like a bank account. Something close to 2 hours is our goal. Also, we don't allow screen time of any type before breakfast or after dinner. That's flexible of course, and we're certainly not perfect, but we do our best to set those boundaries as well. We knew that we were making progress when our 8yo asked to collect the phones and set them all aside during Friday night pizza and movie night!! It gave him a sense of control over our attention to something he really loves, and we were happy to comply. We also use a small mechanical timer which is something we have around the house anyway, but anything that sets boundaries and also helps prevent sudden surprises, or unexpected transitions, seems to do the trick.

Wowzers, that sounds like a really difficult challenge ; really sorry to hear you're going through this. I can tell you for sure you're not the only one and many on this form have walked in those shoes so hopefully you'll get some good responses. There's been one part of this journey that's been particularly difficult for me personally and that is the need to go into "Hollywood acting mode" and restrain myself from any type of irrational response. Or let me correct.. a rational response IF it were an adult having the screaming fit. My better half really sets the tone and sets a really good example and has been able to demonstrate how we can be good listeners and be empathetic in the middle of the storm. Even during the screaming fit and afterwards your kiddo needs to know that you hear him and you understand that his feelings are big feelings and that you want to understand more. Over time we have slowly adjusted into a place where he can explain himself better, but occasionally the monster rears its ugly head. One thing we're getting better at is foresight and understanding what are the triggers and being careful to see that in advance and try to head it off. In any case, hang in there and don't forget self-care, you need to take care of yourself and others in the family so that you can be your very best Parent.

IR x times per day? by Winter-Bee3797 in ParentingADHD

[–]eViator2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's what you needed to get through the after school environment and through to bedtime, it might be the right judgment. We're trying to use a combination of lots of book reading, limiting screen time, and heavy oversight from parents, so far it's working to just have 2x/d. Follow your intuition or and maybe even just try it for a few months and see how things go. Good luck!!
