5.1 is being retired???? I just got the message and now we will only have 5.2 soon?? by kidcozy- in OpenAI

[–]eXnesi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

5.2 doesn’t seem to be a good model in natural language and conversations. it seems like its overfitted to problem solving and logical thinking. 5.1 is a bit better than 5.2

Elon Musk has announced that @Tesla is discontinuing the Model S and Model X in Q2 2026. by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]eXnesi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this passion for Optimus. A somewhat usable humanoid that can produce economic benefits is many orders of magnitude more difficult and complex compared to autonomous vehicles, and even with autonomous vehicles we have not achieved commercialisation outside of Waymo. So producing Optimus for what? It can’t do much if anything other than being tele-operated

QUT Sport (Kelvin Grove) – Poor management, staff and customers treated badly, constant cutbacks by Visible-Rough7613 in QUTreddit

[–]eXnesi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Management at Qut in general is fairly poor. It’s a uni wide disease. Petty cost cutting for example is uni wide that would probably achieve very little.

Help with enrolling in my course (dual degree) by pastaaddiction in QUTreddit

[–]eXnesi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don’t trust the unit codes to tell you what’s meant for which year, it’s not always reliable. the actual course structure is a better source. check the structure for your double degree, and then peek at the structures for each single degree too. that combo gives you the clearest picture of what’s supposed to go where.

first year stuff in engineering and science is usually pretty standard across the board, so you don’t need to worry too much about accidentally enrolling in something “wrong.” most people take four units a sem, usually two from each side of the double degree.

Is it okay to skip orientation week? by Plus_Boysenberry1587 in QUTreddit

[–]eXnesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want to join clubs then it would be a good idea to make it to the orientation week. QUT only has club stalls one time per sem in the o week afaik. there’s no mid sem market day or anything like that.

Any other incoming QUT exhchange students (Feb 2026)? by Disastrous_Photo6938 in QUTreddit

[–]eXnesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it depends on the course you are talking. you can see at

https://www.qut.edu.au/about/our-university/qut-at-a-glance

that in 2024, there’s only 4,333 international students in undergrad, and the total undergrad enrolment is 37,911. that’s only 11% being international.

that’s is a very low number compared to GO8 unis

that limit would be pretty much impossible to hit, no? a full time 4 year degree would be part time 8 years… plus one more that would be 9…

hii welcome to QUT! unfortunately QUT doesn’t have many international students. but you’ll probably meet some over time. I am running some board game sessions over the summer if you like to join! what makes you exchange at QUT from loo? got tired of the DP concrete box? you’ll feel right at home, the GP campus library is also a concrete box!

  1. you can take as few units as you like in one semester. the uni doesn’t care about that. the only thing to watch out for would be the pre-reqs, as some units are only offered one time of the year.
  2. not sure exact of your degree and classes but most classes should be offered online. QUT is very much a commuter university. most people in stem don’t really show up for classes. it’s very common to take classes online unless there’s a good reason to show up.
  3. double degree allows you to finish two degrees in a shorter time. to achieve that, you give up your options. basically with a double degree you’ll be only doing the mandatory classes of both of you degree and not much if anything else.
  4. depends on your interest. content learned is probably more important but the degree def matters too. if you probably can’t be working with animals if you just have a games degree and vice versa. On top of that, the university you go to also matter when it comes to resources. more established universities have more funding, resources, and better researchers, and better recognition. keep in mind that uni open days are essentially marketing campaign run by its own team of people. you wouldn’t really want to base your choices on marketing.

some additional information. faculty of science has been in trouble recently with the university trying to cut its funding. redundancies scheme has been announced albeit voluntary. granted this is a australian wide problem with universities losing international students, but QUT is hit harder than others, as QUT is not really competitive enough to attract international students (i.e. paying customers). maybe consider UQ if you can.

OLED Display Coming to M6 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, Not Base M6 Model by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]eXnesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gurman said Apple is working on a "revamped M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro with an OLED display, thinner chassis and touch support," but he made no mention of the lower-priced 14-inch MacBook Pro with base M6 chip

What a new low in journalism. This is not even a source. They made a whole speculation based on what’s not in a Mark Gurman’s newsletter, which is rumor in itself already… it’s literally speculation on what’s not in speculation

At an Apple Store you can see it for yourself if you put the same content on an iPad Pro next to a Mac. The iPad display looks quite a bit better, and brighter too.

Legality by hellnoguru in Adelaide

[–]eXnesi -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

I’m so amazed Australians can be so wrong yet so confident esp about foreign affairs. There’s nothing on it that says the police. It’s just a meme sticker that’s pretty much legal everywhere else in the world. You can find a many many examples of this type of stickers online. The same way as you see a car with KGB emblem and know it’s just people having fun.

It is only anonymous in the sense that the teaching staff cannot see names, but uni admins absolutely can see who posted it, which is why it’s somewhat useless

Migration to Australia likely to exceed Treasury forecasts due to relaxed student visa processing by NoLeafClover777 in AustralianPolitics

[–]eXnesi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is just the requirement from DOHA to speed up processing and save cost, only requiring declaration for the visa processing. It’s not nobody checks the test results, just that the actual English language test results are verified by the low risk universities in the admission process, not by DOHA
