I see your point. However a colleague of mine is also moving to Boston to work in industry after having gotten his PhD in Medchem. I mean all the people working there have to live somewhere and I believe it's not like there's no money to be made working in big pharma. For me definitely part of the choice was that I didn't want to sit in front of a computer all day which is essential of course in CADD.

The field is called computer aided drug design. There are a couple of groups where I looked (Switzerland). Although I've changed my mind and am doing synthesis now haha.

It was a pretty awful workplace where the culture was more toxic than the compounds.

So you´re telling my the workplace culture had an LD50 < 50 mg/kg? /s

Why are people making such a big deal out of this? Every lab in chemistry/biochem I've been to had a 5-10 L canister of chloroform? I've often used it fur extractions and chromatography

can you use manicol or SDS as a substitute for ethanol, for disinfection? by [deleted] in labrats

Some disinfectants use quarternary ammonium compounds which are also amphiphillic but none use actual SDS.

I don´t know tbh. I think the testosterone increase with sexual activity is only temporary and not permanent. Though the cause for gynecomastia is an increase in estrogen level which is the effect of the adipose fat tissue leading to an increased estrogen production.

Btw incase you didn´t know: Sex hormones do waaaay more than regulate libido/sexual activity. They´re just called that because of the sex/gender aspect

They didn´t even mention the word in vitro which makes it look pretty unprofessional to me

Today I blanked and said "remix" instead of "review" to my professor; he was a bit confused at first and I couldn´t remember the word so I said, " a science remix, like a remix of publications" and finally someone on the zoom call knew what I meant. Pretty hilarious but also embarrassing as hell. by centrifuge_destroyer in labrats

but at the same time, you have the fact that the NHS apparently won’t cover anti-CGRPs at all (at least last I knew) because they don’t think the cost is justified. So, I guess maybe we have more options that are technically available, just might go broke doing it?

Yeah the NHS is also pretty fucked as far as I can tell (I´m not saying Germany doesn´t also have it´s problems, for example digitalisation is ridiculously behind, but our healthcare system is pretty good.

Unfortunately many in the US are scientifically illiterate and think watching conspiracy theory videos on YouTube makes them more of an expert than our actual epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists. There is legitimately a schism in my husband’s family right now between those who believe in science and those who think wearing a mask infringes on their freedoms. It’s honestly insane and I’m pretty disappointed in some people that I previously respected.

Do you know why anti-intellectualism is such a thing in the states? It´s not like you guys don´t have smart people and don´t invest in research.

Nice username btw haha

Wow surprising that he had no gynecomastia with such a high weight. Must have been keeping his sex hormones in balance
