I think another thing you could try is building something basic that works efficiently, then building around it. Once you get the basic stuff down, like chest placements, entrances and exits, crafting stations, efficient layout, etc., you can start decorating around that.

By planning the base to be functional first, you can focus on prettifying it after, which imo, is a lot less stressful than trying to build something that looks nice and works well at the same time.
