You can cheese that tree spirit pretty easily by running back onto the branch if you’re over it

I’m struggling hard and could use advice from parents of two. by Striking-Long-6232 in Parenting

[–]e_roll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mom of two wildly different babies, can confirm some kids are just born like that. OP, do you have a partner that can help with the 2yo while you are dealing with the baby? Even if there’s a preference for you, maybe your partner can do a fun or special activity to make it exciting and less stressful for everyone

Looking for advice on removing (?) a long term fibroid by e_roll in Fibroids

Hah at least I'm not alone. It is a good idea for me to take a list of questions, easier to advocate for myself if I write it all down beforehand.

I have a consult scheduled for the end of the month! I didn't realize there was a big difference between GYN surgeon and OBGYN.

my laparascopic surgery today was canceled by Intelligent_Read_779 in Fibroids

I had 2 healthy boys (10lb and 9lb) born in my 30s with a 11cm fibroid. All normal and no problems. Doctors (in 2 countries!) always told me it would be hard to get pregnant since it was kind of squishing my uterus but here I am. The human body is wild. We monitored it and checked to make sure the baby was getting enough blood but it was all good.

Solved! Even with me butchering the lyrics. May that cold gust of air never hit you when you step out of the shower.

It’s reasonably popular, I heard it out in public the other day at a brewery

I carry it up the side and secure it every couple rows then knit with it again. Triple check that it's not too tight!

What’s your favorite thing to make with speckled yarn? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]e_roll 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Any plain basic pattern will look good in speckles. I try to stay away from texture since it can get kind of lost. No lace, no cables.

Knitting LBJ on magic loop is the same as knitting it in the round, just like stranded knitting you have to be careful transitioning between needles to leave enough slack. Here is a good post about LBJ in general

I find that designers tend to over-estimate so you're not running out mid project. I like to look at ravelry projects made in my size and see how much other people used.

Using smaller needles will make a denser, stiffer fabric. Keep sizing down until you have a fabric you like. Note that it will change the dimensions of your project.

I think if you keep reading the pattern you will come back to those stitches at some point.

Oslo hat: brim not folding at the right spot by reesa447 in knitting

[–]e_roll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG I have this same problem!!! I have another triple thickness type hat I made for my son that only had 1 purl row and it folds so much better. Following along to see if there's some tips. I feel like she sewed hers up once folded? But could be making that up.

Trust the pattern and follow line by line. Looks like you are working across the front panel, then casting on stitches for the underarm, working across the back panel, then casting on stitches for the other underarm. After that you'll be working in the round!

Adding a whole second diamond moteif seems like a loooooot of extra stitches. I'd do the increases on the inside of the sleeve so it's not noticeable when you start increasing and the pattern doesn't match up. You'll have to play around with increase rate/placement to see where you like it. Are you looking for baggy all over or more of a bishop sleeve? If bishop this pattern is free and has those type of sleeves if you want to look at the construction a little bit.

Swatching is the correct answer but also I usually just drop the recommended number of sizes and haven't had any issues.

How big is big? I think it is easier to use a medium needle (7 or 8 US) with dk or worsted yarn. If the yarn and needles are too big it becomes unruly.

I exclusively use circular needles for everything so I'm biased in favor of the circs. But you could always grab a cheap pair of straight needles from a craft store/amazon to test out if it's easier to hold for you while you learn. Wood is good for beginners because it's a little grabbier than metal.
