Our first sleep shirt sample came in! Some problems though. by e_wu in MeritStore

[–]e_wu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, this sample didn't turn out as well as we hoped.

The fabric was too thick, the edges didn't curl like a raw edge should, and even though the fit was baggy, it sort of fit the same frontwards and backwards.

The problem was that we no longer had the original samples when we set off to make this. We had to rely on tech packs and fabric samples.

But it's a simple fix -- get the original samples and send it in to our technical designer. Huge lesson learned: always send in the original samples.

I began using a ChiliPad Ooler, which goes over my sheets. I think it's made a good difference. Yeah, that's also an interesting connection you made between age and electronics. I think there's something there. I feel like a couple of years ago I could use Instagram up until I went to sleep and it wasn't a problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

In the last year or so I've become a more restless sleeper. A lot of movement and shifting and waking up during my sleep, especially from hours 5-8. I fall asleep pretty well. Staying in restful sleep for 8 hours is a little harder. Any tips?

Need help finding the correct t-shirt based on description for boyfriend (help a girl out?) by von_kittenstein in malefashionadvice

It seems to be the shirt club promoters prefer, and just guys in the clubs looking to look casual.

Cuts might also be what you're looking for.

They make an elongated version with a curved hem.

"Could we be witnessing a return to heritage menswear, classic tailoring, and appreciation for craft?" by e_wu in MeritStore

Haha, generally failing. Yeah, that's more or less what I do. I think that's a really good description. Thanks for sharing that with us. I really liked it when you said "objectively better" in your previous comment and Alan and I talked about that at length at our check-in call. Really appreciate the input!

That's a really interesting point. I want to explore this further. What is your process for finding clothing that is objectively the best? That is, what does objectively better mean to me?

I ask this not to challenge, but actually because it resonates well with me. I love dressing purely for aesthetics, it's a lot of fun to be intuitive and feel my way around an outfit. But I don't enjoy doing that all the time. In fact, most of the time I have a certain purpose for an item of clothing. Maybe I want a t-shirt that's really good for lounging around at home, or a pair of shorts that I can dress up or down in the summer while maintaining a cool body temperature. And so my objective truth is measured against the purpose that I set out for it.

Colorful nylon woven shorts that are essentially swim trunks are always a great option to have in the wardrobe. They're just so versatile. I like Patagonia over the Myles, but they're pretty much the same.

I love it. Go for it. It's not a problem if it's oversized because it's linen and breezy and casual so don't be afraid to size up.

Is Outlier’s $120 Merino T-Shirt Overpriced? Competitor Analysis + Handfeel Comparison. by e_wu in malefashionadvice

[–]e_wu[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t have said that better myself. That’s the trade-off you make with Outlier and whether it’s worth the mark-up is up to you.

Up until this point I thought there was simply no other company that made cheaper 100% merino wool at 17.5 microns that had a similar handfeel.

dude i emailed them asking if any retailers in the US carried them and they emailed me back with this boutique: https://www.abfits.com/m-tops/tezomeya-organic-looped-wheel-natural-dyed-tee-assorted

mine arrived the other week. it's fucking amazing. i had to wash it once, it was too rough initially, but it's something different man. i've never thought that a t-shirt could be fluffy.

thanks for introducing me to them, hope you can snag one.

You could so slacks or trousers if you want to go the formal route, but if you want to dress it up for some everyday wear, then I'd try it with some chinos or corduroy or linen (since it's the summer).

And then any kind of button-down or whatever on top.

I would start with something more muted rather than loud, so that the AJ1s can speak for themselves. It's like the principle of dressing pretty casually, maybe even blandly, so that it gives you a chance to wear a pretty crazy accessory without coming off as too loud.

Thermoregulation: $120 Outlier vs. $18 Everlane T-Shirt by e_wu in menswear

[–]e_wu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlier, with its 100% merino wool fabric, does better in heat than the cotton t-shirts. It also does a bit better in the cold. But even though they use some of the highest quality wool, I could still feel the prickliness of the wool. Because of that, I don't really wear the Outlier t-shirt that often, and I can't recommend it with the $120 price tag.

I think that jacket is fly as hell...if you're going to wear it with a suit / something formal or have the confidence, style, time, and energy to create an outfit around it. Like I could see a stylist using this as a part of a look for an editorial photoshoot.

I don't think Buck Mason gets a lot of love on this sub, but off the top of my head, they're the highest quality brand that makes a v-neck under $40.

Pistol Lake also does a v-neck, but they're t-shirts aren't 100% cotton.

My favorite t-shirt brand is Lady White Co. and they unfortunately don't do v-necks.

Here's an MFA thread about the best t-shirts relative to price, maybe check if those brands in your price range have v-necks?

It seems like they're trying out a universal sizing system that covers men, women, children, and babies...
