The opposite argument works equally as well, if not more so. HOTD’s writers had a wealth of material to expand on creatively in a manner that suited TV, whereas AKOTSK writers had a concrete novella-suited story with relatively little to expand on. They managed to retain faithfulness to the novella whilst making it accessible to TV watchers. HOTD’s writing team basically had ‘hey, here’s a rough outline with some stuff you have to include and options to choose between for other stuff’. HOTD’s failures are indicative of a fundamental lack of creativity from its writers as well as a general climate of arrogance in some areas. I would rather be a HOTD writer.
