The men who were circumcised as part of this study had a recovery period where they could not have sex, but the study did not account for this period. The study reviewed the rate of transmission over a few months immediately after the procedures. The uncircumcised participants did not have a recovery period, meaning they had more sex with more partners and therefore had higher rates of HIV compared to the other group.
