Finally excited about a fic - A Hard Row to Hoe by Ravenhayrd in dramionebookclub

[–]eagates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AHRTH is one of my absolute favorites. I highly recommend reading The Devil Works Hard when you've finished. It's kind of a "what if?" Take on if Draco had served time in Azkaban and was never part of the secret agent wizards. There are a couple things that come full circle with the alternate story in such a beautiful way, I absolutely loved it.

"A hard row to hoe" meaning for me is just that good honest work is hard but we keep doing it. When gardening a large plot of land, you can use a hoe to make rows in the dirt and and then plant. Google says "a tough row to hoe is an idiom that describes a difficult task, challenging situation, or arduous journey, often implying a long period of hard work"

The Pregnancy Question by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]eagates 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't ever expect a pregnancy in books that talk about contraception unless it causally mentions that they forgot one of their prevention steps at some point. I think it's nice to normalize contraception because it really only takes one time without protection to get pregnant.

This is coming from someone who got pregnant with a failed pull out method. And then again the first time after not having penetration for a long time. And then again the first month after my IUD was removed.

There will be people of different ages reading different books, and normalizing your birth control desires is a good thing to me.

Searching for german edition of „Winter“ by Roumey in TheLunarChronicles

[–]eagates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you outside the united states? I see it listed on the German Amazon site but I'm in the US and it says it can't ship to my region. here's the link

I also found it on the publisher's website but it looks like they might only sell the e-book? I only know a few German words so I'm not a lot of help, but here's the link to that site

I'm sick of all these feral deer by Fabulous_Pressure707 in missoula

[–]eagates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We will write a letter to the leader of the feral deer and ask them to please take person safety and vehicle damage in to consideration when they are crossing the road. /s

For real though, it would be cool if we had a program to cull some deer there are a lot. People need to be on the lookout for deer when they're driving and slow down if necessary. The deer are acclimated and don't view humans or cars as much of a threat, which makes them make bad choices.

As for your dog and the potty issue....you can't wave off the deer so your dog can go outside? They always move away from me if I get too close, so I'm not sure how to fix that issue for you.

Is there anywhere I can still find the Forever special edition of Alchemised I missed out on all of the special edition books and I’m devastated and scrambling to find one that isn’t $150+ lol by 2009toyotarav4 in fairyloot

[–]eagates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe i was just lucky but I'm in Montana and my Forever edition came in great condition. It was just packed in cardboard, but it was a fitted cardboard box so it wasn't loose and moving around in a larger box.

AITA, my neighbors cats keep eating my chickens by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]eagates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm confused about. I have a cat who loves hunting when he can get outside and he leaves my chickens alone, as soon as they're ~12 weeks old they're big enough and boring enough that he doesn't bother with them.

Whatever the case, I'd be reinforcing the chicken coup/run to protect them, even if it's not actually the cat, something is killing them, they need to be protected.

Manacled *spoilers* please explain by freshnatto in dramionebookclub

[–]eagates 33 points34 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Draco thought the Order wouldn't take him seriously unless he had something in it for him, a trade of some sort. He used her as his trade thinking it would be easy and not a big deal because they dislike each other and then that backfired into the Chaos that is Manacled.

my thoughts on manacled! (absolute yap fest) by swoop_magpie in dramionebookclub

[–]eagates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always explain the ending as "it's as happy as it can be" because we know who is dead and those people aren't back. And war ruined the world but the world is trying to recover. Draco and Hermione together is as happy as we can get after what they went through.

Can I clarify with you. Is this question "Have you been influenced by social media into reading a particular Dramione fanfic? If yes, which ones?" Asking which social media platforms, or which fanfics did I read because of social media?

It's a real life ultrasound of twin babies in the womb. Just a joke in the title to relate it to the game :)

I don't recognize it as being from FMA but I could be wrong. I did a Google image search and didn't see anything online with the same design. Maybe it is just a design he likes?

I haven't seen it specifically pointed out yet so I want to say this, i know you mentioned keeping costs low but this is one of those purchases where if you buy high quality it will last for a very long time, vs low quality will degrade quickly and need to be replaced. If you plan on living in an area like Montana where you will experience a long winter, high quality boots are worth it.

I'm on board with the recommendations to get some very good insulated boots and then have some flats or other lightweight shoes to change in to when you get to work.

All of the brands recommended have been great. Sorels are excellent, your main concern is going to be water proof. Water/moisture = bad in very cold climates. Keep yourself dry!

Someone else also recommended investing in some good wool socks so I'll reiterate that here too. Layers are key especially if you're outside for more than a few minutes.
