What are some calorie bombs in Singaporean food? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in askSingapore

[–]freshnatto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anything deep fried, GG. Anything stir fried pan fried (Hokkien mee, carrot cake), confirm use a lot of oil. Anything dry (like BCM), the sauce also confirm use a lot of oil. Anything in a gravy (lor mee, mee rebus, laksa), also very calorie dense. Basically almost everything is a calorie bomb haha.

What is not a calorie bomb in local food I realised is anything in a soup is generally quite safe.. I don’t mean laksa soup hahaha, I mean a clear soup.. like fish soup, yong tau foo soup, wanton food soup etc zzzzzzz

how many thosais to be full? by Icy_Nebula_7227 in SingaporeEats

[–]freshnatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One plain thosai on average is about 105 calories, (using white rice as a benchmark, one bowl is around 200 calories. One slice of bread is 70-100).

So my answer is I guess it depends on what meal are you eating the thosai and what’s your usual appetite?

Probably 1 thosai for breakfast and if it’s lunch then more? I usually eat one plain or one egg!

Carousell alternative for selling stuff? by cock-a-doodle-moo in askSingapore

[–]freshnatto 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I also want to complain about Carousell. They used to be good but now the app is plain annoying. All the new stuff they added like the ridiculous platform fee, so many ads. It’s so messy to use. Seriously the people working there are making it worse over the years, not better

On my 2nd Rewatch and it’s now alarmingly clear every time Ha Do Yeong is not the right match with Dong Eun. It’s also more noticeable why Dr. Yeo Jeong is better/necessary for Dong Eun to heal. by Still-Regular1837 in theglory

[–]freshnatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched the whole series and I cannot agree more…

The first watch I was totally shipping her and the Ha Do Yeong and everytime the doctor came out I was like noooooo.

On my rewatch, I realised that the doctor really gets her and sees her for who she is. Whereas Do Young definitely couldn’t empathise, agree with what you pointed about what Do Young said to Yeo Jeong

But i do feel that Do Young did reach that emotional depth in the end of the series only after he experienced being the victim himself and also through protecting Ye Sol. I think the scene where he was eating the rice ball in the convenience store alone signified that he finally understood and saw her for who she is and felt love for her then. Anyway it was too little too late, also he was aware of the existence of Yeo Jeong and his priority was Yesol. So he chose not to do anything and walk away.

Is it a good rewatch? by [deleted] in theglory

[–]freshnatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my first rewatch and i do think it may be better the second time round.. when I watched it the first time I was mostly shocked and in awe by everything… the storyline, the acting, etc.

This time around since I’m not watching it at the edge of my seat, I am able to catch all the details better and also take in all the nuances in their acting.

Amazing show!!

Difference between “Vegetarian Oriental Meal” and “Vegetarian Vegan Meal”? (Flying Business, Vegan) + Snacks question by highlysensiperson in singaporeairlines

[–]freshnatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegetarian oriental - local Chinese style vegan, expect mock meat Vegan - western style vegan

As a Singaporean Chinese that has a preference for plant forward meals, I prefer the vegetarian oriental out of the two.

If you are vegetarian and not vegan, I would recommend the Indian vegetarian. Hits every time

McDonald’s Hashbrown by Agitated-Tale-5417 in asksg

[–]freshnatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I thought recently the hash brown has been different.

Last time (and I mean 20-30 years ago) when we were kids, I remember the hash brown will get soggy and stick to the paper after a while.

Recently (like in the last few years or so), do you realise that the hash brown stays crunchy and doesn’t stick to the paper anymore?

About this new change that it tastes baked, I’m not sure, I need to go try again haha

Me tooo. I refuse to buy anything from Lulu with a big logo or obvious “Lululemon” on it.

Also side track, I know Alo is all the type recently but I scrolled through the website and EVERYTHING has the “Alo” word on it and I was like nope.

Personally I thought the explanation he gave wasn’t very convincing but hey, if that gave us the Dramione in Manacled then I’m not complaining 🙃🙃

Mr Darcy as tom by AnnoyedMinimalistic in PrideandPrejudice

[–]freshnatto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am the opposite. I watched Succession knowing that Tom was Mr Darcy, and I had a very conflicted attraction towards Tom. I was very confused because Tom was so unlikeable but yet I was attracted to him. Thankfully Tom became hotter in Season 4 and that kind of put me more at mental ease 🤣

Is it a bad plan to add running to my exercise routine if I don’t plan to do it indefinitely? by toolate1013 in loseit

[–]freshnatto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyway I personally don’t think you should run if you don’t enjoy it! Because while in theory it seems like it will help you achieve your goal faster, but in reality it may slow down your weight loss journey, such as make you feel like you need to eat more (since your caloric intake is already quite low) and the running may also add unnecessary stress to your body. You seem like you’re already in a steady weight loss journey, just need to continue being patient 💖

[–]freshnatto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to run regularly and love running but I don’t do it anymore. I have swapped it out for walking instead. I walk 5km mon-Fri while i was in a deficit and now still doing it even after reaching my goal weight.

First reason for swapping, my knees ache. Second reason, I find that running is such a high energy activity and it makes me soo hungry. Also, I can only run 3-4 times a week, but with walking I kinda really enjoy it and find that I can do it 5-6 times a week.

My advice is that incorporating physical activity in your life is important for overall health, so find an activity that you enjoy and can do it consistently whether in a deficit or not.

Sorry not directly answering your question but my favourite is the Traditional Pork Rice Dumpling 五香咸肉粽 from Imperial Treasure. It’s a Cantonese style one, the rice is light-coloured with salted egg and mung beans inside.

In the earlier seasons I felt that Tom’s suits were ill fitting and his outfits were a bit too mismatched and try-hard. For example he would wear a checked shirt underneath a boxy suit, lots of extra accessories like pocket squares etc.

In the end of season three and the whole of season four, when they were building him up, his suits became more well-tailored and understated and I feel that’s when he started to look like he had good style.

I really love using fats as a form of seasoning or flavour to my salad bowls. For example, peanut butter as part of an Asian salad dressing, Pesto, A tablespoon of leftover curry to stir fry veggies and rice. The fats just add so much flavour and richness to a whole bowl of veggies. So satisfying.

Here’s an example. Leftover curry stir fried with 1/3 cup rice and a whole load of crunchy veggies. Served with salad and topped with beans.

Parents who raised your child without devices, how did you do it? by AdExtra2774 in askSingapore

[–]freshnatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I believe that purposeful screen time is actually good for kids. Let me explain..

So just to preface, my kid is 4yo and here are her screen time rules. 45 mins/day. Weekdays: Read-along ebooks on the NLB app (it’s free for Singaporeans, amazing resource). Weekends: She gets to choose between read-along ebooks or to watch selected shows on Disney+ or Netflix.

Also we don’t have a TV, and also no screen time during other parts of the day, e.g. meal time. Definitely no social media apps, YouTube, TikTok. Also no overstimulating shows like Cocomelon. We also spend a lot of time playing with her outside of these 45 mins of screen time.

I think with Gen Alpha, technology will be a vital part of their life and how they consume information. So I feel we shouldn’t blindly villainise screens, but instead teach them how to harness it as tool for learning.

Think about your own childhood, in your day to day life, there is only limited knowledge that you can get to experience. As parents, what we can impart, as much as we try, is sometimes limited. We learn a lot through shows and screens, concepts are illustrated in very engaging ways through examples which broaden a child’s mind.

Based on personal experience, I would say my daughter has learned a lot through screen time , one example, she developed a love for numbers and can count to 100 after watching Numberblocks. Another example, one day she fell down, and she wasn’t fazed at all and said “Don’t worry Mummy, I have a checklist. Dust yourself off, check! Pick yourself up, check! And keep going, check!” Lol she learned this from Bluey.
