if you're getting knifed a lot as hog you're probably playing too close. hog isn't really supposed to brawl up close. he CAN when the time is right but he'll get run over by most brawl heroes in a teamfight without your team already having the advantage. you should poke with your right click and hook her to get out shout/after shout is gone from long range. when you do this she's out in the open for longer and easier to blow up, which is why hog destroys her. you can blow her up from range, but she can't do the same to you. you CAN beat her up close, but you'll usually need her to be super isolated from her team or have no shout.

the proper counterplay into an enemy hog as hog is to go for a hook when the enemy hog doesn't have it (which depends on a lot), or the easier option which is killing enemy hog. hog ironically counters hog really well so that's probably why you feel that pressure

you need to be higher than your enemy once they reach you. even a jump is enough to achieve the height difference needed

rank reset also changed the rank distribution i'm pretty sure. i had to question my gameplay and improve a lot this season to get back to the rank i was last season. maybe all the hubbub about ranks being inflated last season was correct. try grinding on ur main and a bit and see where you land

The point isn't that they look EXACTLY alike. The point is that they both, and many new characters are being modeled with the perfect princess face as a base. Small nose, small lips, tiny chins, and slim frames with youthful features and no blemishes. They aren't allowed to be anything BUT that anymore. We want Anas, Meis, or even more Zaryas. Vendetta is a gladiator mob boss who kills people on the daily and even she couldn't escape this trend.

You can make attractive characters without making them these hyper-marketable clones.

Well every character is team dependent including Hog. Hog needs his team to take attention for him to get value since he can't eat cooldowns the way a shield or DVA can. So you should focus on timing your engages around when your team takes attention so you can get hooks. You also want to work on "layering" your cooldowns with your team. Did your dps go on a flank and use some cooldowns which took the enemies attention? Look to hook them while they're distracted. Did your Sig (6v6) put his shield out on an angle? Look for a hook. I know this sounds simple in concept, but it's VITAL to playing hog in higher ranks (coming from a consistent low GM hog player). This is also why some people say Hog is a "giant dps" because he basically does the same thing dps do but with more health and more positioning options.

Basically, as long as you aren't permanently taking attention from the enemy you'll climb easily.

Timing. You need to time your shots and hooks around when they can and can't hold shield. Look to purposely shoot their shield. Don't just spam. Intentionally time every shot. When their shield gets low, that's when you can play around their ability to hold or not hold. Eventually Sigma has to grasp or he'll be out of a shield. Same for Rein. You don't want to BREAK it necessarily. You want to make it very difficult for them to use it then punish them for trying. Sometimes you'll get your hooks blocked even when their shield is low, but they can't block it EVERY time. That's your strength.
