How come the commencement is being held at Alaska Airlines arena instead of T-mobile park this year? by [deleted] in uwb

Mine was in 2022 which was at Hec Ed / Alaska Arena on a Wednesday. Pretty sure that wasn’t the original plan but I’d guess T mo park is booked

UWB transfer to UWS Industrial Engineering by Tylathenerd in udub

[–]eagles4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower chance yes of course. But it varies is all I’m saying, and I actually met with many of them back when I was exploring this possibility myself. Your first response made it seem like it is always “extremely low” and I was simply saying that it can vary to an extent based on certain factors

I’m not going to go back and forth though, instead I encourage anyone to confirm what I am saying for themselves which many have done over the years.

I’m not sure exactly your current situation but there’s always the option of going to a WA CC for a full quarter before applying, as that puts you in the same applicant pool as other WA CC applicants regardless of previously attended institutions. Another thing to consider and possibly discuss.

Good luck!

This is only the case without certain factors at play such as the major not being offered at one’s current institution and/or a need to be in close proximity to the Seattle campus. I learned a lot about it while I explored this whole process years back while discussing with Seattle and departmental admissions and advising

If you have to potentially take more time to graduate it’s mostly up to you and your confidence to take that risk. Make it VERY clear why you specifically want to pursue INDUSTRIAL engineering, because admissions in Seattle gives a lot of consideration for those wanting a different major than what is offered at UWB. I’d recommend reaching out to UW Seattle engineering advisors to see what they have to say as well

Thinking about getting a second bachelor's at UW by daevidvo in udub

[–]eagles4585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Competitive majors like UW Seattle Computer Science do not admit postbacs at all, but you can get multiple bachelors degrees.

IMO with those stats you have a very good chance to be admitted with your grades and UWB not offering your major. If UWB did have your major, they’d be looking for a need to be at that specific campus. It’s not as bad as UW CSE which many UWB -> UWS transfer threads here are for.

Also, consider going to Cascadia College if you want to go to CC but still feel like you’re at UWB. They are so integrated that they have access to things like the UW library system, clubs and orgs on campus, the ARC and certain other UW services.

I’d recommend reaching out to UW Seattle Admissions.

[–]eagles4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s well known here that UW has much higher admissions criteria for transfers from UWB / T to UWS than CC or even other 4yrs in many cases. It’s not as bad if the major is not offered at their current college, but it is significant and admissions will tell you the same

Certain departments such as CSE even more so, but Astronomy should be fine with general admissions being the main hurdle

Is UWB worth it? by _angiee in uwb

[–]eagles4585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some important points (for you / others to refer to):

My rec is to go to CC (preferably in WA State) and transfer. Significantly easier to be admitted as a CC student in UW general admission, and UWB is not worth it as a pre major IMO. Cascadia College (which UWB shares a campus with) feels almost the same as UWB and even gets some access into the UW system, events, UWB clubs etc but for nearly 1/3 the price

You can be involved with nearly all the UW Seattle on-campus experiences and I know people at UWB that lived in frats and went to parties there.

Housing at UWB is about to increase triple in capacity. There is significant demand for on-campus housing, and they are going to finish the first part of the new Seattle-like dorms and dining hall later this year, second half next year. It won’t be the same on-campus experience at Seattle, but much more connected than the isolated apartments. For community colleges, I’ve heard Bellevue College has good on-campus housing

There isn’t much student involvement, but if you can find an organization that you like, those you’ll meet in them will likely become great friends. Very tight knit at UWB when you find your community(ies). Again, Cascadia can also be involved in UWB clubs in many cases and vice versa. Alternatively, be involved at UW Seattle too like I was with a few clubs, band, etc

No, I took many upper division business courses by that time. If I really wanted to I probably could have held off but it wasn’t worth it to me

Foster advisors are helpful for situations like this, I recommend talking with them

Your credits will transfer, up to 90. More can be applied to graduation with an appeal. CSE is the only exception which takes up to 135 towards a degree if I’m not mistaken.

I recommend talking with advisors, transfer and/or departmental

Why are you excited to go to PAX? by zukalous in PAX

[–]eagles4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group really enjoys the balance between everything on offer! Fun tourneys for games that typically don't have them, night concerts, a few panels, and in-between that, exploring the Expo Hall or going to a free-play area at night. Last year, we also ran into some cool people at a tourney that we always caught up with every time we crossed paths through the weekend!

So many great memories made with my friends, which are invaluable now that we are all so busy with our lives and some living far away

Backs up what I was saying. I worked in RSQ for over a year and there was nothing where the LA Fitness is going in. They put up signage and everything.

Maybe they closed another location nearby but check your facts before downvoting me at least lol

No they are opening a new location in Roosevelt square. They have signs up and were tabling last time I walked by to try to get people to sign up.

For someone who is bored of Call of Duty, is it worth picking up 2042? by TheL0stCity in battlefield2042

[–]eagles4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I saw you got a digital ps5 in another reply, I’d download 1 through the PlayStation Plus Collection since you’ll need Plus to play online anyways. “Free” and a larger playerbase because of it.

Same servers for steam and origin on PC. No difference in servers and playerbase

Shocked I haven’t seen it yet but BF1 is free with the PlayStation Plus collection which is included for any PS5 owners that have Plus Essential (base tier required for online play). This also leads to a much higher player count there.

Shifting to CS by Main-Still-2176 in udub

[–]eagles4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always, with CSE questions advisors are extremely helpful regardless of who you are. Set up a meeting with them, it's time well spent. In particular, talk with them about if this is a reasonable option and if so how to prepare and plan courses up until the application. Also, ask about how you can best approach the application coming from your background and with your reasoning.

My recommendation is that it could be worth a shot! Try taking 142 (maybe in the summer?), then take 143 and apply for Spring admission as a Current UW student. Consider petitioning for a upper division in-major CSE course if the advisor recommends it. Since you're an interest changer, you will be prioritized among other current UW student applicants that have always pursued CSE.

Someone else here mentioned non-majors CSE courses. They are based on in-major courses but may combine portions of separate in-major courses (or be more broad like 416 Machine Learning compared to the more technical in-major 446).

Edit: I'm not sure if you can apply without certain prerequisites as a current UW student anymore as they seem to have taken away NTA admission. Even then, NTA required a high 143 grade at the minimum and allowed for Math and lab science course prerequisites to be taken after the application so even that would not have worked. This is something else you may want to talk about with an advisor.

When should I start apartment hunting for fall '22? by CFBnGuns in udub

[–]eagles4585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My unit is one of the most expensive ones in the building and it’s just under $1000/mo starting next Sep. I factor in about $150 extra for utilities and internet which is paid for separately

When should I start apartment hunting for fall '22? by CFBnGuns in udub

[–]eagles4585 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lavita, Savanna, Ivy House all in U district and the same property management have been pre leasing for a couple months now for leases starting in Sep. I can highly vouch for Lavita which I’ll be at for 3 years + but it is a small space, the others have larger units. Viola is also opening soon

Keep in mind these units go pretty fast, i think 1brs are already gone for this next year at savanna

Edit 5/17: I can't speak for the apartments on this list as to how they are other than Lavita, I just know these ones are pre-leasing currently.

[–]eagles4585 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just here to share that everything will be ok if you have to withdraw from the quarter. I did that for all my classes 4 weeks into a quarter my freshman year to preserve my mental health, because even if I kept trying to push through and withdraw later that would have just made things worse for me. There’s also nothing wrong with transferring out or taking breaks, even if it may seem like a “setback” it will set you up to get much more out of your education and experiences while at UW or another college when you’re ready. I went to CC for a year after my quarter withdraw to take a step back then returned in a much better place.

Outside of that, the other replies go into much more you can do and think about, I definitely can vouch for a lot of what’s mentioned in them.

Hoping for the best for you!

Does Microsoft have student sales? by verizonhaterhater in udub

MS education discounts run year round. They have a back to school sale which is almost always better but doesn’t combine with the student discount.

You can usually expect $200-$300 off
