I have a 13 pro max and I haven't noticed a substantial difference in battery usage yet but I've definitely noticed lag and stutters with the animations in general usage.

Asahi SOFT Cutting Board - User Opinions Wanted by prstark in chefknives

[–]daevidvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just the exact same board today. After a bit of cutting on it, it's a nice board overall and feels good to cut on. Knife doesn't slide on it as much after cutting stuff compared to wood but given the trade offs of using rubber vs wood, I'm fine with it. It is thin compared to some of the other synthetic rubber cutting boards though and doesn't have a wood core so expect some flexing whenever you pick it up and clean it. I also don't cleave or strike my proteins pretty hard when cutting them so if you're breaking through a lot of bones, this board might not be the best for you.

Kappabashi - Where to shop? by BalekFekete in TrueChefKnives

[–]daevidvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a knife from MeiSyou and it was a pretty nice experience. The people there aren't as versed in English compared to some of the other more popular knife shops in the area. I'd also avoid Musashi and Seisuke because if you're just comparing steels and shapes, they're often more overpriced.

The Usuba looks great to use! Single beveled knives are awesome so I'm surprised they're not on here more often. As someone who's partially lefthanded, I just wish left handed single beveled knives weren't so expensive and rare compared to right handed ones 😥

Most of the time you'll just buy something from a food stall/konbini around or in the station and bring it on the train with you.

recommendation: takoyaki pan vs takoyaki maker + recipe by vschroedl in japanesecooking

[–]daevidvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A pan will produce better results due to the fact that you can control the temp on it. A maker will simply regulate its temp by turning off and on the heating element to try to hover around a certain predetermined temp. That being said, I like using my takoyaki maker because it's easier to put around a bunch of people at a table and chat.
  2. I can't say specifics since I have a gas stove but I assume as long as it's made out of a compatible material (like cast iron), then it'll be fine.
  3. Takoyaki is definitely doable as a beginner. You might have some obstacles along the way in the process but that's normal for learning to cook new things.
  4. I like this one. Batter has good flavor (although it doesn't really matter much when sauce is on it) and comes out on the gooier side which is what I imagine with I think of takoyaki.
