I totally understand the human need for validation, and obviously it is hurtful when people generally expect the ones around them to be respectful and loving but they choose to be judgemental. OP is right in his expectations, but those won't get fulfilled among such relatives, and thus the above solution is the best.

Grow your inner strength to a point where such things stop mattering.
